I'd pronounce like the goddess - like Vera but with an H at the beginning or hero with an a at the end.

Iheartbobross · 30/08/2023 21:58

Quite a mixed bag there then OP! Which is your favourite? Just go with it, if you love it.

Exactly. I've never heard it pronounce any other way.

WhyHasAllTheRumGone · 30/08/2023 22:25

Heh ra

LolaSmiles · 30/08/2023 22:26

HEra (heh-rah?)

The e as in mess, the a as in among

This or hair-rah (still the a as in among).

Olika · 30/08/2023 22:43

Hee-ra

UsingChangeofName · 30/08/2023 23:11

I think I'd say "Hear-rah" but with a sort of question mark in my voice as if to say "Have I said this right?"

Lelophants · 31/08/2023 08:37

She’s an absolute badass character and the queen of all gods.

I like the pronunciation Hear-rah but was told the correct Greek pronunciation was hair-uh so wasn’t sure if it would be wrong to call her the wrong name.

cariadlet · 31/08/2023 08:54

I don't think she was a badass; she was a nasty piece of work.

Her husband played around but she couldn't punish him because he was king of the gods so she meted it out awful punishments to the young women that Zeus had seduced/raped.

ErinAoife · 31/08/2023 08:56

Hay ra

Twoshoesnewshoes · 31/08/2023 08:58

Hear ah
its my cats name!
named after Hera - mycochondrial (sp?) Eve in battlestar galactica

FayCarew · 31/08/2023 10:13

Wiki says "Hera (/ˈhɛrə, ˈhɪərə/; Greek: Ἥρα"

Which is roughly Herra and Hero with an a not an o
The greek say it as Yrra

CandyLeBonBon · 31/08/2023 10:24

Heh-ra

CurlewKate · 31/08/2023 10:25

hear-ra. But if you have to ask, she will have to deal with people getting it wrong all her life.

ValancyRedfern · 31/08/2023 10:28

Like Vera But with an H. Great name! I also love Hero for a girl but DP wouldn't let me.

PickledScrump · 31/08/2023 20:55

Only ever heard it as Heh-Ra

peaceinourtime · 31/08/2023 20:57

I knew a Hera from school, it was pronounced hear-a

Toddler101 · 31/08/2023 20:59

Hair-rah - this is how I read it in my head when I read the title of your thread!

jlpth · 31/08/2023 21:00

to rhyme with Vera

IncompleteSenten · 31/08/2023 21:03

In Greek it’s EEraa. I don’t know where the Hairuh pronunciation comes from - it ain’t Greek!

KezzabellaB · 31/08/2023 21:08

Hair-rah

HE-ruh

I wouldn't choose it because I associate the name with Greek mythology and she was such a nasty, vindictive character.

This!

although tbf if she was on here I’d have told her to LTB.

ButterfliesandMoths · 31/08/2023 21:10

Hear- rah

Absolutely LTB

No point hanging on to a marriage just for the status if you have a husband who can't keep it in his pants.
