Prefer Steven for the nickname Stevie but DP thinks Stephen is more the original

I'm firmly in the Stephen camp. There is something about Stevie that just says middle ages wide boy to me.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 24/08/2023 17:14

Definitely Stephen. You can still use Stevie as a diminutive if you want.

lap90 · 24/08/2023 17:16

Stephen

SlippySarah · 24/08/2023 17:16

I'm a big fan of using the "proper" name for the birth cert and then using whatever nicknames you want. I love Stevie but would never name a child Steven.

copperhat · 24/08/2023 17:33

Neither.

Steve is an middle aged football hooligan.

Time40 · 24/08/2023 17:47

Stephen is the "U" version (as in U and non-U), so I would go with that.

AdaColeman · 24/08/2023 17:55

Stephen.

You can still use Steve as a nn.

Plump82 · 24/08/2023 17:56

My husband is with a V and I love it. I can assure you he is neither a middle aged hooligan or a wide boy!

KezzabellaB · 24/08/2023 18:01

Stephen. 100%

dahliadazed · 24/08/2023 18:03

Another vote for Stephen.

Neverseenbefore · 24/08/2023 18:05

Stephen. Definitely. Nice name due a comeback.

Doyoumind · 24/08/2023 18:09

Stephen if you have to, but don't. It's so outdated and shouldn't make a return.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/08/2023 18:10

copperhat · 24/08/2023 17:33

Neither.

Steve is an middle aged football hooligan.

Wtf. My brother is called Steven and is far from that. What a stupid fucking comment.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 24/08/2023 18:11

Stephen

NamaraMc · 24/08/2023 18:18

Steven. My brother is Steven, a nice guy too.
Stephen never made sense to me, as it's pronounced Steven not Stefan.
I do like Stefan too...

OccasionalHope · 24/08/2023 18:19

Stephen is the classic spelling.

Derrymum123 · 24/08/2023 18:19

Stephen.

zozueme · 24/08/2023 18:23

Definitely Stephen. Doesn't stop you using Steve/Stevie as a nn.

TFMinx · 24/08/2023 18:39

Steven, definitely. My dad was Steven, shortened to Steve and he was very excellent. There aren't enough young Stevens/Steves in the world.

DarkAndWild · 24/08/2023 18:41

Stephen nn Steve.
Stevie is quite feminine to me.

Lunde · 24/08/2023 18:42

Stephen

Although I did go to primary school with a boy called Stephen Stevens

stopringingme · 24/08/2023 18:42

Stephen

Tangomango1 · 24/08/2023 18:49

My husband is called Steven and he is the best of men! There was a Stephen where he worked who was nicknamed Step Hen along with clucking noises so beware! And p* off with the football hooligan thing. There should be more baby Steve's/Stevens/Stephens. It's a lovely name

DrMarshaFieldstone · 24/08/2023 19:24

Surely no-one is so literal as to suggest that you can’t call a Stephen Steve as a pet form?
