We both love the name Noah and would like to use DH's name Simon as the middle name - Noah Simon but does it have that certain ring to it IYKWIM. Im not sure if it sounds right?

We dont want to ask family about what they think - weve decided to keep the name secret as were fed up of all the comments - theres always some negative comment or two - at this rate we'll never find a name.

Our surname is just one syllable

so Noah Simon (one syllable)

What do you think?

I have a Noah, so love the name. I see what you mean about the names not going together, but I actually rather like Noah Simon and think when you add a single syllable surname, it'll sound fine tbh. My Noah has two middle names which seem to flow nicely with our single syllable surname.

Cheekster · 29/02/2008 19:44

Your right Simon Noah does flow better.

Noah James is lovely!

But how would I break the news to DH!!!!!

Think Noah is great, and purpleturtle's suggestions are great...just cant see it with Simon for some reason.

However, feel free to ignore me because my son has his father's name as a middle name and although the two flow very well, it sounds much like a basketball player!

Cheekster · 29/02/2008 19:48

Another think - Noah at the moment isnt one of the most popular name - no50 on the 0-100 popular names in 2007.

But would hate for it to get extremely common. That happened to my friend who called her little girl Grace 6 years ago.

Anyone feel the same way?

Noah Simon James sounds lovely imo. I think James after Simon would soften the name somewhat.

purpleturtle · 29/02/2008 19:51

Um, Cheekster, don't believe everything you read.

I have a Noah, who when I named him was the only one I knew. Over the last 5 years there's always been at least one 'other Noah' in our circle. 3 weeks after my Noah was born, another family in our church called their new baby Noah. When my boy started nursery there was a Noah there. When we went to Australia for a few months we made friends with 2! Now that he's started school, the reception intake of 20 contains 2 Noahs!

I don't seem to be able to move for falling over a Noah.

I still love the name.

purpleturtle · 29/02/2008 19:53

Noah Simon James works for me.

Cheekster · 29/02/2008 19:57

Noah Simon James - yes that might work. I will have to keep saying it over the next few days to see if it rings with me.

It would be a good compromise!

I think Noah is gorgeous and it's only natural to want to name your ds after his daddy, no matter his name is!

In reality how often do you use your full name? Not very often is it?

Go for it.

Cheekster · 29/02/2008 23:01

Thanks for that Josta - When I just read that it gave me the goosebumps!

I think youve hit the nail on the head there-
I will regret it if I dont call him after his daddy and I know he will be an amazing daddy too.

Were both a little apprehensive with this being #1 - but I know together we will be fine.

Thanks once again

Hey Cheekster, of course it's nerve wracking having your 1st baby but I'm sure you'll all be fine!

I have an Oscar and a Gabriel ( both names I love ) but I know they are not the names that alot of people would choose, but I really don't care!

Noah Simon has a lovely sound about it

Good luck x

puffling · 29/02/2008 23:30

Noah would have seemd the bizarrest choice of names even just a few years ago, now there's stacks of them. How about Ezra?

I like Noah, but they are loads of them here. It's become one of those names where it sounds original and then you realise that there have been lots of mothers all being 'original' at the same time
Anyway it doesn't matter, if you like it, you like it!

Cheekster · 01/03/2008 10:16

Where I live there are no Noah's at all. Being a teacher and my sister being a midwife in the area - neither of us have never come across the name before where we live.

But I bet as soon as I decide to choose the name then so will a lot of other mothers at the same time!

Noah Simon James sounds a lot better imho.

collision · 01/03/2008 10:19

There are no Noah's where we are.

WallOfSilence · 01/03/2008 10:31

I have a Noah

He is the only one I know of locally.

Everyone comments on it.

I love his full name of Noah Matthew & call him by it all the time

Noah Simon is lovely

OracleInaCoracle · 01/03/2008 10:33

We have a Noah Phillip and it really suits him. when we told family that we had picked Noah we got a fair few s but it really is perfect for him!

ScaryHairy · 01/03/2008 10:42

I like Noah, but because of the biblical origins of the name I would be inclined to try to pair it with something that wasn't in the bible (so not Simon) - William maybe?

WallOfSilence · 01/03/2008 10:45

We get a lot of faces too.

And people saying "Noel?" (He was born at Christmas)

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 01/03/2008 10:51

our ds has just cut all his hair off and does not look like him iykwim

we call him simon as a joke name

it has really grown on us!
