Hi all, me again, my DH and I like Oscar, Jacob and Peter for a boy. Which is your favourite?

Our little foster child is called Jacob and I've never considered it for my own children and I love, love, love it!!
Our Jacob is the happiest, funniest wee soul you'd ever meet 😁

Dacadactyl · 14/07/2023 22:21

Peter.

GreenMarigold · 14/07/2023 22:22

I think Peter is a lovely name, and much less popular than the others.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 14/07/2023 22:22

I love Jake so Jacob. (With Jake for short.)

MissHoney85 · 14/07/2023 22:23

I really like Peter. Classic and timeless but hardly used at the moment. Would definitely have considered it if it didn't clash horribly with my surname!

JanesBlond · 14/07/2023 22:23

I love Jacob! I like Oscar too but don’t like Ozzy as a nickname. Peter is ok, no strong feelings either way.

JazzyBBG · 14/07/2023 22:26

They are all very different to me.

  • Oscar - quite trendy but not over used, I quite like it.
  • Jacob - very popular - I always think a Jake should be dark haired. Maybe it's from the Crow in Shawshank redemption called Jake!
  • Peter - underused recently, very classic considering it's biblical but feels quite 1950s to me.
Curseofthenation · 14/07/2023 22:26

Thanks for the opinions! The only problem I have with Peter is the nn Pete. It sounds like a middle-aged man to me 😅. I really like Peter though and wonder if we could pull off avoiding Pete as a nn.

I like Jake and Jacob pretty much equally, so the same issue isn't there.

Yeah - makes me think Pete Beale on his fruit and veg stall a bit!

Curseofthenation · 14/07/2023 22:30

@JazzyBBG I guess the main drive in name choice for us is something that isn't too fussy and that flows nicely with our slightly unusual, softer sounding surname. That's probably why they seem a bit random!

From experience there are a lot of Oscars in our school. In case that makes a difference to you.

MillenialAvocado · 14/07/2023 22:58

Great list except Peter, which I really dislike. It immediately makes me think of Peter Beale like a PP said Grin
Love Oscar and like Jacob, they are a lot more popular but that wouldn't put me off if I liked the name.

JollyJolene · 14/07/2023 23:02

I have a teenage Oscar and still love the name. He’s not Ozzy or Oz and never has been. Sometimes Osci but mostly Oscar or O. Even though it’s been pretty popular for several years I have not come across many of them, despite working with children.

I have met more Jacob’s, but still a great name.

OopsieeDaisy · 14/07/2023 23:06

I love Oscar and Jacob is nice too. I’m not really a fan of Peter, it’s just quite dated to me.

ThoseClementineShoes · 14/07/2023 23:08

I know loads of little Oscars and Jacobs, but only 1 little Peter.

Jacob is lovely but popular. Peter is an underused classic.

Izz1 · 14/07/2023 23:28

Really like Oscar and Jacob but Peter is a nice name too. Rare I like all 3!

mymeatballsmymeatballs · 14/07/2023 23:30

Oscar or Jacob. I have an Oscar so I'm biased but it's such a lovely name. Jacob was on our list too. Peter is nice, classic but abit boring.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 14/07/2023 23:55

Definitely Peter.

Topazbutterfly · 14/07/2023 23:55

Peter is my favourite, I think it's a lovely name

smilesup · 14/07/2023 23:58

I don't like Peter as I always think of petter out and it sounds wet.
Jacob is a great name.

SkaneTos · 14/07/2023 23:58

They are all great names!

MrsBungle · 14/07/2023 23:59

Peter is such a wet name. Better for a budgie.

oscar is the best on your list.

Theoldwoman · 15/07/2023 01:59

Depends on middle and surnames.

Jacob is a cool name!

user1492757084 · 15/07/2023 03:10

Peter is my pick.

Einevinefine · 15/07/2023 03:13

Peter, great name. Doesn’t necessarily get shortened to Pete.
