Hi all, me again, my DH and I like Oscar, Jacob and Peter for a boy. Which is your favourite?

I have a Peter, never been called Pete, Petie when littler, still love the name and only one other in secondary scroll but a Pieter, or Piotr I think.

continentallentil · 15/07/2023 09:29

Jacob

Oscar is way overdone

I like Peter but hate Pete so wouldn’t risk it

PrudenceDictates · 17/07/2023 20:30

Oh... I like them all!
The wonderful Oscar I know (and love) was way ahead of the current trendy curve, having bagged his name 63 years ago! It and Jacob (that I had on my list after my first, but then had 4 consecutive girls!) are both very well used now.

So much as I love them, I think Peter would be better. It's a good solid name that deserves a comeback!

PickledScrump · 17/07/2023 20:52

Love Jacob, like Oscar, dislike Peter

Chichz · 17/07/2023 20:55

I have a little Peter and can assure you he is not at all wet! 🤪🥰

Haven't met another one his age either, which I really like and is definitely a conversation starter.

Peter

Peter

(33 yo) DH is a Peter, generally refers to himself as Peter, but I’d say 99% of people automatically call him Pete. I think there are some names where a nn isn’t automatic (James>Jim, William>Bill) but I think there are some where they pretty much are (Robert>Rob, Steven>Steve). I think Peter>Pete is probably the latter. But I still love the name because I’m biased.

Also, DH isn’t wet. Although ironically is actually in the shower right now, so I suppose he technically is.

GammonAndEggs · 17/07/2023 21:01

Peter! I know one who is never a Pete, but is often PJ (Peter James).

I have an uncle Peter James. Wonder if it’s the same one!

FoodFann · 17/07/2023 21:06

I’m no use, just to say, they’re all really lovely names! Maaaaaybe I’m leaning to Peter, closely followed by Oscar x

Joolsin · 17/07/2023 21:14

Jacob is a lovely name. Peter is ok, but a bit bland. I hate the sound of Oscar, besides there are way too many of them nowadays.

BettyBallerina · 17/07/2023 21:15

Jacob. I have a dark haired Jacob.

BinkieBeaufort · 17/07/2023 21:16

Oscar always sounds more like a dog's name than an actual human.
Jacob is great.

RandomUsernameHere · 17/07/2023 21:16

Love Oscar. Love Jacob. I can't really imagine anyone under the age of about 60 suiting the name Peter, sorry.

Jacob is great.

You've never heard of Oscar Wilde? Oscar Isaac? Oscar de la Renta? Oscar Hammerstein?

TheYear2000 · 17/07/2023 21:27

Great list! I like all 3, maybe Jacob least of the 3. I think Peter is a great name that is very underused!

shoopshoopdedoo · 17/07/2023 21:37

I think I’d pick Peter. Oscar is lovely too but seems to be the name of every other baby boy I meet! I’ve never liked the name Jacob, but I do like Jake.

OdeToAutumn · 17/07/2023 23:51

I have a Jacob and I was saying the other day i’m still so happy we picked it. There has been one other Jacob in his year and a Jake.

Oscar is nice but not my favourite. Peter is ok.

mathanxiety · 18/07/2023 00:14

Oscar or Peter.

WildEarth · 18/07/2023 00:17

Oscar. Not a fan of Peter.

toomanysausages · 18/07/2023 00:21

Peter is lovely. I've only ever met one Oscar, lovely name.

Maireas · 23/07/2023 20:00

Again, they're all nice. I like Peter because it's classic and slightly less common. I had to laugh at your take on Pete! I know what you mean.
I teach a lot of Oscars, not as keen.
Good luck with the baby.

simonthedog · 23/07/2023 20:07

Peter

Chevrotains · 30/07/2023 20:48

Oscar is my favourite and then Jacob
