Baby already here and can't decide!

Dh and I are REALLY struggling to name our son. We just haven't been able to decide definitively and now baby is already here and we really need to get a move on!

We have narrowed it down (I think) to either Arthur or Evander.

Our surname is Rose so any name we choose needs to fit nicely with that and not be too tricky to say one after the other. Other names we considered were Alexander, Austin and Theodore.

All suggestions/opinions very welcome and much appreciated. Thanks so much in advance x

Evander

Arthur Rose can be reversed to Rise Arthur. That a heslthcare pain.

Spanielsarepainless · 13/07/2023 12:44

Arthur Rose sounds gorgeous.

Labyrinth86 · 13/07/2023 13:48

Honestly find the comments in this thread so bizarre. Do people routinely meet other people and try their best to make jokes using their names?

I work across many schools, I meet many children and teachers and I've never come across people trying to make phrases or puns out of children's names or reverse the first name and surname to see if it makes a company name or something. Does Taylor Swift sound like a fast tailor to you guys? Does Harry Styles sound like Hairy Styles? You can do it with anything if you put your mind to it, I guess. Heath Ledger could be a record of accounts relating to uncultivated land if you really go for it. It's just silly.

Literally, if the name sounds nice to you then use it. Arthur Rose is a beautiful name and all this 'half a rose' in a Dick Van Dyke-esque Cockney accent nonsense is just silly. Like I say, I think it sounds like a celebrity name and it has a punch to it. Evander Rose is fine too but I prefer Arthur.

@Labyrinth86 , it's not strange at all. When I was at school most of our nicknames were a bit like that. Something like one Robert would be Rupert and the other Robert had was Minty because his name written backwords was Trebor, Becky was Bendy (bend it like Beckham), Liz was Lizard, Paula was Podge (her initials were POJ) etc...

I see Hairstyles when I see something with Harry Styles on it.

Coffeeandcakemum · 13/07/2023 14:18

My vote goes for Evander 😊 lovely name!

Bin85 · 13/07/2023 14:23

Alexander then you can have Alex or Xander.

littlehattie · 13/07/2023 14:24

Adore Theodore!

Beautifulsunflowers · 13/07/2023 14:35

You seem to like names beginning with A or E….other than Theodore!
I agree that Arthur Rose sounds like half a rose as a pp has stated and that names ending in R do tend to run into the R in rose. You just have to decide if it bothers you that much.
would you consider
Evan
Elliot
Ethan
Andrew
Adam
Ivan
Isaac

I love Alexander! That would be my pick. Arthur is objectively fine, but I’ve just never liked it for no good reason. I’m not so keen on Evander, personally.

Hankthehonk · 14/07/2023 08:33

Personally I'd avoid the names that end in R but that might just be my accent making it feel/sound clunky (Scottish- we really pronounce Rs!)
Rose is a beautiful surname and I'm drawn to 3 syllable first names with it, like Elijah Theodore or Samuel

Congratulations and good luck making a decision!

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 14/07/2023 08:35

I love Arthur Rose 😍

AssertiveGertrude · 14/07/2023 08:36

I think Arthur Rose is really lovely and sounds like a cool name

Hollyppp · 14/07/2023 10:07

I really like Felix Rose

Samzzz · 14/07/2023 14:22

Evander Rose. Don’t like Arthur.

17caterpillars1mouse · 14/07/2023 14:25

Evander is gorgeous and different.

Arthur is nice enough but very popular and sounds a bit like Half a Rose as pp have said

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 14/07/2023 14:40

Evander is wonderful!!

Jongleterre · 14/07/2023 14:42

Evan Rose.

KayEmAy · 14/07/2023 16:34

Evander, Alexander and Austin are my favorite!

Sander is also a fav of mine it feels appropriate to mention :)

Cath60 · 16/07/2023 21:13

I saw someone else comment suggesting Jack Rose. There's just something about that, which just sounds effortlessly cool. Like, I can imagine it being a stage name for an actor.

clobie · 16/07/2023 21:17

Evander is sooooo lovely

Arthur makes me think of a fat medieval king

CurlewKate · 13/07/2023 07:01

I do think it should be a rule of thumb to avoid any name which will make most people say "I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch that" for the next 80 years .

I have to spell both my names every time because they are like what sorry?! Despite a 5 letter first name and a 4 letter surname

Mitchlou84 · 16/07/2023 23:07

I can’t believe all the people pro Evander! I don’t like it at all it’s really weird.
I love Arthur and Alexander, Theodore too. Don’t like Evan but like Ethan.

Souleater · 17/07/2023 12:19

Flip a coin. Heads one name, tails the other. When it lands, your gut feeling when you see which one it lands on will tell you what you really want, for example, it lands on heads and you think "aww it wasn't tails", then you'll know you really wanted the other name.

chalkiegirl · 18/07/2023 07:48

Evan yes. Evander no. The sort of name that would be an embarassment when he’s a bit older.

bravotango · 18/07/2023 08:18

Love evander but not sure it's quite right with Rose!

Prefer Alexander nn Xander
