Elodie

what connotations does it have, if any?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pointydog · 24/02/2008 19:00

No. I just think there's an 'm' missing.

Makes it rather a dramatic name though, doesn't it, Cali?

msappropriate · 24/02/2008 19:16

I am started my campaign on subtely brianwashing my eldest son to name any daughter he might have Eloise. We have the books named after her and I mentioned it once when he talked about being a daddy one day. Although he thinks he is marrying his baby brother (being married he said means you don't have any other freinds!) and I will be the mummy. So, still some way to go. Must play the song more and introduce him to medieval french religious history.

liath · 24/02/2008 19:19

I have an Eloise, I was torn between that and Elise. She's usually Ellie though.

Blandmum · 24/02/2008 19:22

No, as it would remind me of Elodia, which is the biological name for pond weed.

Sorry

msappropriate · 24/02/2008 19:23

really? I would have been one of those mothers who insisted on the full name at all times. Not that I hate Ellie but I would have called my mythical dd Eleanor if I had wanted her to be called Ellie. I also like Elise and Edie and Evie and Eve and bizarrely Elsie too.

artichokes · 24/02/2008 19:25

I agree that it sounds like an M is mising.

And I am not sure I would like it any better if the M were there.

WestCountryLass · 24/02/2008 19:30

Love Elodie! Very pretty name and one I have considered

NN could be Ella or Odie, love it!

alfiesbabe · 24/02/2008 19:30

She will end up as Ellie which is over used

liath · 24/02/2008 19:35

Ellie just seems to suit her at the moment, msappropriate although I think she'll grow into Eloise. Funnily me & my sisters have always been called the shortened versions of our names and both my kids are usually shortened. I do sometimes wonder why I gave her such a pretty name only to promptly shorten it, though.

this is odie from Grafield!

Not odie!

msappropriate · 24/02/2008 19:45

I don't think children always end up as their diminutives. My son hasn't (no one hsa even tried yet) and I know a few teenagers like that too. Unless the kids themselves like the diminutives.

TheHonEnid · 24/02/2008 20:03

i was my full name at school, but always diminutive at home. i am also dimin. as an adult, mainly because i associate the full version with school.

msappropriate · 24/02/2008 20:17

Its best said in a french accent (then so are most things!)
