Ivy is a wonderful name! very 1910 though

alfiesbabe · 24/02/2008 12:02

I think Edith is a very pretty name actually - and I teach an Edith who's 16 so it must have made its comeback a while ago

Tigerschick · 24/02/2008 12:11

I agree with Buda - the names that are making a comeback are, on the whole, ones that are associated with old people. Names like Kevin, Brian etc are more associated with people born in the 60s adn 70s, IMHO. When our dc are having their own children then maybe names from the 60s and 70s will be coming back into vogue.

I know an Albert, an Archie, an Alfie, an Iris Lillian and a Mary Lorna. I know some of those are making a comeback but not all. It is odd how some names are seen as acceptable and some aren't ... and some never seem to wane in popularity (William, Thomas etc.)

Peter is a beautiful name - strong, genuine and with a lovely meaning.
I know a baby Peter too, he's known as Petey which is sweet (though I expect he'll be Peter or Pete when older!!)

used2bthin · 24/02/2008 14:20

Stanley is I know two babies with that name. My friend's nursery has a Bert AND an Albert. And a friend of my parent's has got a new grandaughter called Audrey. I love the name Honer actually, I'll add that to my list of possible names for if and when I ever meet another man and have another baby...

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 24/02/2008 17:47

malcolm is different

nkf · 24/02/2008 17:51

There is some research into popularity that suggests that names have to be a certain number of years out of date before they return. I think it was at least two generations so names found among 90 year olds will be the next trend. Although the trend to copy American styles of naming seems to be influential too.
