Jean, Jeanie.

Let yourself go!

Wrennie24 · 02/07/2023 22:14

Sorcha - pronounced Sorr-a-ha. Means brightness. Love love Marsaili as well.

Howtohideasausage · 02/07/2023 22:21

I have an Elspeth. Sometimes called Effie.

I like Eilidh too.

Seryse · 02/07/2023 22:23

Seonaid (pronounced Shona) - but be prepared for people to not be able to spell it or say it a lot

If pronounced Shona why not just spell it that way!

Buggered if I know, used to work with a woman named that with that spelling and I always thought it was unusual and kinda funky on paper.

And I doubt a Scot would use Paisley.

My friends DD is called Paisley, and they live to the western side of the central belt.

I'm Scottish and have never heard the name Marsaili. What area is it most popular in?

More popular in the north, or with those who watch Outlander.

Weird! I'd pronounce it shin-aid or similar.

I would pronounce it “Shaw-nitch”! But just googled and you can pronounce it either way, how confusing 😅

I honestly thought that WAS how you pronounced it until I was corrected. It's not a name I'd use (3dc and sterilised now so no chance anyways lol) but I do like the spelling and if unusual so thought I'd throw it out there for the OP just incase they may like it.

Ginger1982 · 02/07/2023 22:42

Definitely not Paisley!! Jeezo!

Fleur405 · 02/07/2023 23:37

Some interesting suggestions in here! Never met a Nairn, Paisley, McKenzie or a Marsaili! Did have a great aunty Jean (though I’m not sure that’s due for a comeback!)

Love Morag too.

user1492757084 · 03/07/2023 02:27

Skye
Elspeth
Mary
Elizabeth
Alexandra
Heather
Fiona
Rosemary
Isla
Morag
Catriona
Alison

Paisley sounds naff, like that's where the wee soul was conceived, and then lumbered for life with the name.

Namesnamesnames145 · 03/07/2023 21:13

Thank you guys.

I love morag, ever since I read Katie-morag (I loved those books).
i love elspeth too. But I want Elizabeth a middle name so that wouldn’t work.

I too thought seonaid was said sha naid 😂 only realised it wasn’t because of this thread. Though I don’t personally like it so no issue there.

Paisley is a big no 😂 so I agree with guys there. I’m total opposite side of the country to paisley but to me it’s kinda similar to Dundee. And that’s not a good thing. Sorry if anyone lives in either of places 😬

@Namesnamesnames145 chipping in with a couple more as I don't think they have already been suggested

Kirsty

Sheena

(both go nicely with Elizabeth IMO!)

Also Shona is similar to Seonaid but with less of the pronunciation or spelling pitfalls!

granof8 · 04/07/2023 17:15

In my family I have Moira, Fiona,Isla and Isobel. WantedCatriona however, living in North America felt that it would be mispronounced all the time

Violinist64 · 04/07/2023 17:21

Catriona goes very well with Elizabeth.

arlequin · 04/07/2023 22:32
