Opinions on this name please!

It's of Slavic origin meaning 'princess' and is pronounced zaa-ree-uh.

Thanks!

I will repeat that Slavic is not a specific language. It's a vague label, a bit like saying something is "European". If a name is genuinely used in a particular culture then the source should be able to name it and provide data to back that up.

The baby name sites are often unreliable.

I can think of several similar names like Zara, Saira, Sara etc and they all seem to mean princess.

If you like the name use it, but I wouldn't say it was of Slavic origin, because it might be untrue.

Well many sites (such as this one: babynames.com/name/zaria ) seem to all say the same thing so guess it's unclear where the name actually came from since the website you looked on says it's English.

FayCarew · 22/06/2023 11:56

@RaisingZ , it probably is a 'Slavic' name in the same way as Sarah is 'North European' in that the root might be from somewhere else.

Honestly, it's like you wanted to use Zara but wanted to be different but really just made up q name that sounds a bit silly. Not my cup of tea at all.

6 months too late to this conversation but my 6 year old is called Zaria. No-one has ever got her name confused. I hope you ignored the rude comments on here and named your daughter it too xx

FayCarew · 19/01/2024 20:04

How do you say it @MammaSamx3 . Zar-ya, Zar-ee-a or Zar-eye-a?

MammaSamx3 · 19/01/2024 20:28

Zaaa-ree-uh. She loves that it's a unique name. She was asking how many other Zaria's there are when we came across this thread x

FayCarew · 19/01/2024 20:31

Thanks. It's nice.

sharptoothlemonshark · 19/01/2024 20:32

Nice name, it is a variant of Sarah, nothing extreme or way out about it at all
