My mum and one of my sisters are both called Margaret. Thats what they get called, they never had anyone using nicknames.
My friends sister however gets called Mags by the family, bleughgghggh

pointydog · 22/02/2008 18:01

In scotland, Maigret (ending with glottal stop natch)

lottiejenkins · 22/02/2008 18:01

My niece is a Margaret, we either call her Meg or Meggles or Meggie

nappyaddict · 22/02/2008 18:04

how old is she? does she like her name? that is what i would be most worried about. that a child of today would think it terribly old fashioned.

lottiejenkins · 22/02/2008 18:14

Shes 13 now and seems to like her name, what she doesnt like is if someone calls her Megan........ she quickly responds "my name is Margaret Rose" she was named after her paternal grandmother who died before she was born.

nappyaddict · 22/02/2008 18:17

is she called margaret at school etc?

my baby would also be named after her grandmother.

I don't thinkl anyone would get stick for being called Margaret. It's no more old-fashioned than half the names nowadays

She is called Meg at school or Meggles (one of her teacher thought of it re Muggles in Harry Potter)

nappyaddict · 22/02/2008 19:22

i remember at my school the teachers would only call you by your proper name

margoandjerry · 22/02/2008 20:20

I love Margaret. My DD's middle name is Margot. I love all those names and I don't think they are too old fashioned. In fact I think they are coming back into fashion. Also love Marguerite.

notmyrtle · 22/02/2008 20:47

I have a friend who is at the top of three generations of Margarets - she's known as Marge, her daughter Daisy & granddaughter is Peggy. I think it is a brilliant name.

lottiejenkins · 23/02/2008 11:49

Have just checked a hunch and was correct, Keeley Hawes(Ashes to Ashes) has a daughter called Maggie...........

peaceinourtime · 16/10/2023 09:12

Marg, it’s a bit middle woman though
