Our DD is named Billie. I am not in love with her name (hubby chose) so am wanting a nickname for her.

OP posts:

Bee?

overitunderit · 14/06/2023 10:54

For what it's worth I absolutely love that name for a girl. So cool!

Bee or Bill are probably your only options...I'm guessing it's too late now but couldn't you have called her something longer with Billie as a nickname for your husband to use? So she could have been Cybil or Wilhemina for example

BB

Snap!

Love the name. Leave nicknames to her mates in the future.

MyDogStoodOnABee · 14/06/2023 11:05

Billie is the nickname 🤷‍♀️

CurlewKate · 14/06/2023 11:06

A nickname can be anything. Doesn't have to be related to her name.

Guineapigwoes · 14/06/2023 11:06

Billie is the nickname.

Why would you accept a name you didn’t love?

Blip · 14/06/2023 11:08

Maybe use her middle name if you do t like her first name?
Or change her name to one you love.
How old is she?

NeverHadANickname · 14/06/2023 11:09

I would say Bill, Bills, Bee, Lee. I also agree that a nickname doesn't have to be directly linked to their name, my DS answers to Monkey Bum 🤷‍♀️

BlameItOnTheGoose · 14/06/2023 11:10

Agreed, Billie itself is a nickname (or least very much seems like one). But you could use any other nickname you want for your own DD. It doesn't have to be similar to Billie necessarily, eg you might end up calling her snackie or pie or dimples or whatever!

TheMurderousGoose · 14/06/2023 11:11

If Billie is her official name then technically it isn't her nickname, even if it is a nickname for someone called for example, Wilhelmina.

This. I'll never understand why people agree to names they don't like because their partner likes it 🤷🏼‍♀️

elizabethdraper · 14/06/2023 11:12

Mary ?

elizabethdraper · 14/06/2023 11:13

Willie
Liam

ilovemydogmore · 14/06/2023 11:13

Billie is the nickname, but 'Bee' works. I find that nicknames just happen you don't have to plan them.

FlounderingFruitcake · 14/06/2023 11:15

Why have you agreed to a name you don’t love?! If baby is still tiny then change it! Billie kind of is the nickname although I know one who occasionally gets Bills but I can’t imagine you’ll like that if you don’t like Billie.

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/06/2023 11:25

Wait for a nn to emerge. DS2 gets called Doots in our house, it sounds nothing like his actual name, which I love.

Guineapigwoes · 14/06/2023 11:30

@FernGully43 Absolutely!

I conceived her, carried her everywhere for 9 months, endured a 3 day labour and pushed my melon sized baby out of a hole the size of a lemon and then gave her my boobs for another 10 months…but it’s ok DH you name her…🙄

TheMurderousGoose · 14/06/2023 11:36

Sometimes there can be a post-birth tumult where people agree to things, like certain names, that they don't particularly love. It's not great, but maybe OP agreed to it when she was a bit out of it. I'd roll my eyes at her partner rather than at her.

Angelofthenortheast · 14/06/2023 11:37

Nicknames just happen naturally, and they're very rarely cute. We used to have a kid on our street who was called 'Skid', short for 'Skidmark' and the name genuinely stuck through to adulthood after everyone had long forgotten of it's gross origins.

Your best outcome is someone saying:
Billie, Bill, Bill'd-a-bear, Bear, Bear Necessities, Ness, Nesty, Nesty Nick, Nick

Aged 20: "Hi I'm Nick, short for Billie" 😆

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 14/06/2023 11:39

Billie is the nickname. Maybe B but I can't see how that's better.

I never understand picking a name unless you really like it. Or the names people pick and feel like it has to have a nickname to go with it.
