I think we have our name - Romilly Wren

Curious to know what people think about our chosen name?

Romilly Wren (surname begins Ch, two syllables)

It was always between Romilly, Wren or Delphine/Delphi. And then someone suggested Wren as a middle name and bam, loved it. I do hope little one doesn't get 'Milly' as a nickname though 😕 This is our fourth child and I just think this goes so well with the others.

Oh god, not another Mae. As pp says, an overdone and naff filler name. Fay is a lot better.

KirstenBlest · 30/05/2023 20:00

Not keen on Wren, although the bird is ok.
Romilly is awful.
Delphine is nice

Pianono · 30/05/2023 20:02

Lovely names but not sure about them together. How about Romilly Maude?

TheMurderousGoose · 30/05/2023 20:03

Wren is very trendy and will probably date, similar to Dawn or Gail, but as middle name that doesn't matter so much.

Romilly is nice. As is Delphi

Chispazo · 30/05/2023 20:04

I like Romilly but not Wren in the middle. I agree that Wren Chapman or Wren Chandler or Wren Churchill does have Wrench in the middle. Pick a different middle name I suugest

AdaColeman · 30/05/2023 20:15

I like Romilly a lot, a super cool grown up name. But I don't think it matches well with Wren, Romilly Wren sounds like a Beatrix Potter character, especially with the alliteration.

OTOH Delphine is an absolutely beautiful name, so I hope you use it, and forget about Wren.

Crabwoman · 30/05/2023 20:29

I love the name Romilly. Unfortunately it's a town near us so could never use it. But it in my top 5.

I love it, my daughter is Bromily Beth, so very similar!

I mispronounced it as Bromily Breath 🙈

Ginger1982 · 30/05/2023 20:48

Presumably as Wren is her middle name it won't be used much so Romily Ch...sounds fine.

ashitghost · 31/05/2023 21:18

Daphne Wren

JimJamJo · 31/05/2023 22:34

Sorry I know it wasn't what you were asking but I really like Delphine

Pemba · 31/05/2023 22:36

I like Romilly but don't like Wren.

KnickerlessParsons · 31/05/2023 22:38

I have 4 s's in my name. I had a lisp as a child and had to have speech therapy.

DipperandMabel · 31/05/2023 22:38

I must admit Romilly makes me think Romy, then I think Romy and Michelle’s High school reunion and I love that movie so I like the name. However, I think it will be shortened to Romy if that bothers you? Romy is also beautiful.

I don’t like Wren at all (sorry!) but I don’t think the two R sounding names are a problem - if you like it go for it!

What are your other kids called? x

thewillowbunnies · 31/05/2023 22:39

Nooo sorry...it's an absolute mouthful. Does not go together at all.

YoureAMeanOneMrGrinch · 31/05/2023 22:45

I think it's super cute! I am bias as my son is called Wren, but I love Romily. I think it would be shortened to Romy.

kitsuneghost · 31/05/2023 22:48

I can't say it.

Whiskeypowers · 31/05/2023 22:51

They don’t go together but I love both names

MissHavershamReturns · 31/05/2023 22:54

Assuming you want honest replies then I don’t like it.

These are my reasons:

I personally don’t like alliterative name combinations.

I don’t think the two names ‘go’. I think Romilly is a beautiful name but needs something plainer and more classic alongside it eg Romilly Charlotte or Romilly Elizabeth both sound great to me.

I think the name is very hard to say and doesn’t ‘flow’.

I also get Wrench when put with your surname.

MissHavershamReturns · 31/05/2023 22:54

Forgot to say I also dislike Wren as a name

Hannahsbananas · 31/05/2023 22:55

I wouldn’t put those two names together.

WhatADrabCarpet · 31/05/2023 22:58

Given that you've already named your son R and R , it sounds pretentious.

Sorry.

stinkingbishop · 31/05/2023 23:02

I have a Romilly and, to my eternal sadness (I wanted her nn to be Mimi or RoRo or Rommy), she's Rom to her sister and friends. Or RomBomb. Or Romster. And her Dad calls her RomCom. Literally no one has ever called her Milly. So, worry not!

How funny, I can’t begin to imagine how someone would perceive Charlotte or Elizabeth as more plain than … Wren…. Grin

MissHavershamReturns · 01/06/2023 06:27

@CrazyArmadilloLady its cultural isn’t it? Charlotte and Elizabeth are run of the mill names. Wren is unusual and not a common name in the UK.
