Feel like they’re all quite different, but would love to get some thoughts! TY in advance 😊

Jemima
Sophie (or Sophia, but I feel like that’s even more popular)
Astrid (maybe with Addy as a NN)
Annabel (Annie as NN)
Frederica (Freddie as NN)

I hadn't thought about Mima as a nn. i don't like it but Jem is nice.
Jessica is nice but I wouldn't shorten it to Sicca. Smile

NotmykingEatCake · 27/05/2023 11:22

I have an Astrid, I get countless compliments on her name. She also loves it.

Prepare for Annabel to be constantly spelt "Annabelle". I speak from bitter experience! To me, Annabel is a great name that works for all ages and stages, whereas Annabelle is far too cutesy and I don't think it's so suited beyond the teen years.

Yes, this! To be fair, Annabelle has been the more popular spelling in the last decade or so, so it isn’t surprising that so many people get it wrong.

Also, as a PP has said, it’s difficult to impose nicknames. Mine would rather be called Bella than Annie (she’s too young to have seen Twilight, which would probably put most people off the name Bella!)

waterlego · 27/05/2023 11:32

All lovely but Astrid is the clear winner for me. Fantastic name!

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 27/05/2023 13:53

Not Frederica, she'd be one of a dozen Freddies at school (albeit the only female).

I like Jemima and Astrid.

Astrid
Or swap Annabel for Annalise

Jemima - twee
Sophie (or Sophia, but I feel like that’s even more popular) - nice but done to death
Astrid (maybe with Addy as a NN) - great
Annabel (Annie as NN) - a bit twee - how about Annalise?
Frederica (Freddie as NN) - it’s ok, but it’s such a popular boys name at the moment it would be quite weird

Love Annabel

Sophie is sweet but a bit dull

Frederica is nice too

Not keen on Jemima but it's fine

Astrid is absolutely dreadful...I imagine a middle aged tarot card reader who lives in Brighton who's house stinks of incense

Astrid’s quite popular these days. More toddlers than tarot readers.

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 27/05/2023 14:13

Jemima - I like it but it reminds me of the girl from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Sophie is quite boring. Sophia is much nicer.
Astrid - it’s a ‘try hard’ name to me. Addy is cute.
Fredrica - awful
Annabelle is the spelling I like but I love Annie as a stand alone name.

ourflagmeansdeath · 27/05/2023 15:09

Jemima - This is so pretty and I don't mind the duck connotation
Sophie - Love Sophie, if popularity is an issue don't go for it though. Sophia is just as popular
Astrid - Gorgeous but I don't like Addy for a nickname it doesn't really work
Annabel - Pretty, and Annie is too but popular
Frederica - Not keen on this at all

Favourite would be Astrid with Jemima as a close second. They're lovely names though!

IWonderWhereThatDishDidGo · 27/05/2023 15:10

I like Frederica and Jemima best

PintOfWino · 27/05/2023 15:15

I like Jemima, great name.

Fandabedodgy · 27/05/2023 15:25

Sophie

I don't like any of the others

hola47392 · 27/05/2023 15:34

I like them all, maybe Jemima or Annabel as my favourite. Annabelle was on my list actually. They can both be shortened to a few things if you want to but sound equally lovely without shortening.

Malarandras · 27/05/2023 15:38

I have an Annabel: she is definitely not ‘twee’ and she always gets called Annabel. No nicknames. And if someone spells it wrong they get corrected. Easy.

It's such a lovely name and suits a baby and an adult.

nicedaydoreen · 27/05/2023 18:55

Nice list much better than most on here recently!
Jemima- Love , very pretty
Sophie (or Sophia, but I feel like that’s even more popular)- Nice but sooo popular.
Astrid (maybe with Addy as a NN)- This seems like a cool girl name. like
Annabel (Annie as NN)- Love - Pretty. Maybe a little overused especially mixed in with the Isabel"s etc.
Frederica (Freddie as NN)- This is the only one I really don't like and wouldn't use. I do know an adult Frederica ( Freddie) and always thought her name was a bad fit somehow.

SourDoughToast · 27/05/2023 18:56

Astrid is my favourite by a mile - such a cool name!

shoopshoopdedoo · 27/05/2023 20:38

Like them all, with the exception of Astrid. I’d struggle to rank the others - Sophie and Annabel are lovely and classic, whereas Jemima and Frederica are more unusual but both pretty cool (IMO).

Framboisery · 27/05/2023 20:42

Jemima is a nice name. NN could be Jemma or Mima .

Astrid, nice but may seem odd if you don't have a Scandinavian background of any kind.

PickledMuffin · 27/05/2023 20:43

I love the name Astrid. It's my best friends middle name. ❤️

PickledMuffin · 27/05/2023 20:45

I forgot to say, you may already know but Astrid means divinely beautiful - how more
perfect can that be!

Whatisityoucantface · 27/05/2023 21:21

If I met a baby called Astrid, Frederica or Jemima I would think ‘that’s a really great, cool name’ but would no way think the same about Annabel or Sophie because they’re a bit boring

chocolatecheesecake · 27/05/2023 21:28

If you like Addy, how about Adelaide?

The Astrids I know are either known as Astrid or Asti, I think it's unlikely Addy would stick as a nn.

Sophie/Sophia is so overused, she'd be known at school as Sophie N or whatever your surname began with.

LilyLemonade · 27/05/2023 21:33

I like Astrid (but I don’t like Addy as a nickname) and Frederica.

They are both quite strong names and relatively unusual without being wacky.

what about Sigrid, in a similar vein to Astrid?

mastertomsmum · 27/05/2023 21:42

I like Anabel but it needs an equivalently pretty shortening if you do that. Ann, Anne,Annie nope; Belle, Anna yes; Bella not really.

Sophie/Sophia - the former can be the shortening of the latter as it was in the beginning
