I really love the name Tyler for a girl, but dh thinks its chavvy.
I don't really care and am determined to talk him round, just wondered what the general consensus was

I know what you mean Mrs M. It is actually the only one of that type of name that I like

Oh thanks lennygrrl- now you mention it I am not totally uncool, imo.
I know what you mean- she will have to be cool to carry it off.

I think it does have slight Chav connotations, but if you like it you should go ahead. What about Thalia, which in my opinion is beautiful, timeless and elegant.

talkingmongoose · 19/02/2008 14:11

It is very, very chavvy, and will draw an instant negative reaction from all her future teachers.

As will Taylor, or (shudder) Tayla.

Sorry.

tashunka · 19/02/2008 14:22

But an instant reaction can be changed can't it? I mean, names become irrelevant once you get to know someone, don't you think?
I think teachers will love being proved wrong.

i don't like Tyler, sorry

Flum · 19/02/2008 14:28

Must admit two of the poshest girls (my age 30s) I know are called Sharon and Tracy, both went to a top public school. Both hated their names and the connotations and the combination of both of them. Everyone else thought it was hilarious. Both lovely and very popular, not sure if that was due to, unrelated to or inspite of names!

Agree Tyler is more commonly a boys name - don't think it is chavvy tho... How about Tyra or Tyla?

HonoriaGlossop · 19/02/2008 16:47

Tyler is v v chavvy

sweetkitty · 19/02/2008 16:56

I liked Taylor for DD2 but thought the same thing (sorry Mums of Taylors) now I have a Talia which is actually an old biblical name and suits her to a T.

You sound lovely. Are you pregnant then?

fingerwoman · 19/02/2008 20:41

I wouldn't have thought of it for a girl tbh, but I do like it a lot.

mrsruffallo · 19/02/2008 20:44
