We would love to read your comments:

Sonia
Primrose
Theda
Lianna or Leanna
Persephone
Alizée - like the singer, maybe too out there?
Holly
Rosalind
Miranda
Anna
Chloe-Grace - DH loves this, I'm not yet convinced

DH is Irish so we are looking for an Irish middle name, if you have any ideas. My favourite is Aisling because it means dream and I love that, but DH says he knows too many his own age so not sure if I can convince him. Looking for ideas with good meanings.

I like the ones that are a bit more uncommon such as Persephone, DH likes Chloe-Grace, Anna and Holly the most.

All horrible apart from Anna

ladygindiva · 28/04/2023 22:33

I like Rosalind and Miranda the best on your list. They are both beautiful. Rosalind Aisling is gorgeous. I prefer your choices to your DH's; and I'm not keen on Chloe-Grace at all; but then I dislike hyphenated names stuck together.

Mumofgirls2017 · 28/04/2023 22:37

Primrose or Persephone

SkaneTos · 28/04/2023 22:39

I like the names
Sonia
Theda
Rosalind
Holly
Anna

fourelementary · 28/04/2023 22:41

Primrose
Orla is a nice Irish name or I do like Maeve
Anna is classic but might be a bit “frozen” for the modern day…
What about Miranna?
Grace is also nice but not chloe-Grace (tacky)
Theda is clumpy
lianna yuck
Persephone is pretentious
and Ros is middle aged and frumpy!

weegiemum · 28/04/2023 22:42

Miranda.

I know one, she 70, keeps her own highland cattle and breeds rare breed poultry. I long to emulate her! Go for Miranda.

ShoesoftheWorld · 28/04/2023 22:43

My favourites are Rosalind, Anna and Miranda. Chloe Grace is nice unhyphenated but terrible hyphenated.

Have very little knowledge of Irish names but I like Róisin and Cara a lot. Anna Róisin is lovely.

YourWinter · 28/04/2023 22:43

Any EXCEPT Primrose or Persephone. Penelope is slightly better, but I still don’t like it.

Anna (doesn’t go with Aisling, or my preferred spelling, Aislinn)
Rosalind (doesn’t go with Aislinn, but Anna would be a nice middle name)
Miranda - no, sorry, I can’t stand Miranda Hart
Holly is lovely
Chloe-Grace is awful hyphenated, though they’re lovely names individually.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/04/2023 22:46

Primrose
Theda
Persephone
Rosalind

One of these. I adore Persephone but only if you're confident people will say it properly

Treasureboxkey · 28/04/2023 22:46

Rosalind Niamh
Rosalind Maeve
Rosalind Saoirse

I really don't like double barrel names. They are rarely used and end up sounding a bit contrived. Imho.

Fererr · 28/04/2023 22:47

Anna - a favourite of mine.

InceyWinceySpidy · 28/04/2023 22:53

Sonia - Sonia Jackson from EastEnders
Primrose - Twee
Theda - No
Lianna or Leanna - No
Persephone - No
Alizée - No
Holly - Pretty
Rosalind - Lovely
Miranda - Ok
Anna - a MN gave, but as my friend said very accurately the other day, "have you ever met one who wasn't a right c*nt?" She's right you know!
Chloe-Grace - the more you say it, the nicer it gets

InceyWinceySpidy · 28/04/2023 22:53

MN gave??

MN fave

SneezyEvie · 28/04/2023 23:00

Persephone!

TomatoSandwiches · 28/04/2023 23:10

Chloe - Grace is not nice... at all and I like both names but nope.

I really like Anna and Primrose from your list.

My favourite Irish girls name is Bridie and I quite like Laoise.

Elva is also a sweet name.

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 28/04/2023 23:20

Lianne for me... unless you'd consider Rosa or Rosalie? They seem a little less... Rosalind. I may be bias though as i had a cabbage patch doll as a child who came with a birth certificate declaring her Rosalind Erin which has haunted me since 😂

justasoul · 28/04/2023 23:33

I know an Alizée, massive pronunciation issues.

LilylilyDaisy · 28/04/2023 23:41

I think Chloe-Grace is nice.
I like Saoirse too.
From your list I also like Rosalind.

FinallyFoundIt · 28/04/2023 23:50

I like Lianna, Rosalind and Anna from your list (yes I have met a lovely Anna - the only one I know actually).

Chloe-Grace sounds kind of nice, but looks awful and I'm afraid I fall into the camp of hating hyphenated names - they suit little girls but not women. Chloe-Grace as a 40, 60, 80 year old? You're naming them for life, not just toddlerhood.

Kalettesarethebest · 28/04/2023 23:52

I have an Anna, can't go wrong

MillenialAvocado · 28/04/2023 23:56

I like Lianna, Holly, Anna and Chloe and Grace (separately but not together)

prinnycessa · 29/04/2023 00:08

Persephone is a beautiful name!

salamithumbs · 29/04/2023 00:57

I think Holly, Anna and Rosalind are all lovely and won't date (also love Rose, Rosa, Rosanna, Rosalie).

Sonia and Leanna sound dated to me, and don't like the sound of Theda (maybe Thora instead?). Chloe-Grace sounds very 90s/early 2000s and reminds me of the actress Chloe-Grace Moretz... think it's better as two names rather than hyphenated. Grace is also nice on its own.

Persephone is very.. daring.. I personally wouldn't like to be called such an unusual name but it's not an ugly name. Primrose on the other hand seems really twee.. the fact that 'prim' is literally in the name makes is sound very prissy to me (think Rose is much better). Alizée seems extremely 'out there' and I think it would be a nightmare to pronounce and to spell (my own name is constantly spelt/pronounced wrong and it gets very very tedious).

I know Miranda is a Shakespeare character but it just makes me think of Miranda Hart and Miranda Priestly from the Devil Wears Prada, sorry! But sounds nice enough!

My favourite Irish names are Ailbhe (Al-va) Saoirse (seer-sha), Saorla (Sair-la), Cadhla (Ky-la), Aoife, Cara, Ciara, Maeve or Sadhbh (Sive). So maybe:
-Anna Maeve
-Rosalind Ailbhe/ Rosalind Cara
-Holly Saoirse

Good luck!

salamithumbs · 29/04/2023 01:08

Sorry just see you want Irish names with nice meanings! Cara means friend, Aoibh (pronounced Eve) means smile, Aoibhinn (Eve-in) means lovely, Saoirse means freedom, Róisín means little rose, Sorcha (sur-uh-ka) means brightness/light... any of those?
(sorry it's not exactly a k sound in Sorcha but I don't know how to write that throaty sound 😂I'm sure your DH knows how to say it anyway!)

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 29/04/2023 01:17

Sonia or Sonja is beautiful & not commonly used .
