tinselvestsparklepants · 24/04/2023 23:06

God no. Hate it!

HaggisFace · 24/04/2023 23:10

Nope, there were 3 of us in my class, very common for my age group

Bluelightbaby · 24/04/2023 23:10

Yes, love my name

LighterNights · 24/04/2023 23:11

I hate my name, no way.

LadyLolaRuben · 24/04/2023 23:15

Not a chance

Woahbodyforrrrm · 24/04/2023 23:16

I absolutely hated my name as a child but came to love it as a young teen after realising how lovely it is, so it's a yes from me!

Mushroomofficeglass · 24/04/2023 23:19

Nope, was 6 of us with same name at school and 4 in a team of 10 in a job a few years ago.

CloakOfNope · 24/04/2023 23:20

No, I have one of those names that I always have to spell for people. I get called a similar but wrong name a lot too.

salamithumbs · 25/04/2023 00:22

Probably not as people always spell it wrong, but then I remember there are people out there naming their twins Fish and Chip and I realise things could be worse.

Gooseysgirl · 25/04/2023 00:27

No, I have never liked my name and use a shortened version which is more tolerable to me.

Cattenberg · 25/04/2023 00:35

No, because my own taste in girls’ names is a bit different. But I do like my name and think it suits me, so it’s all worked out fine. I’m glad my parents chose an unusual name for me, even if no one knows how to spell it.

DD’s name is actually one of my mum’s suggestions. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but it really grew on me and now I love it!

Confusion101 · 25/04/2023 00:41

Nope not a fan of my name at all although it has gained some popularity in the last year or so

OldTinHat · 25/04/2023 00:46

Yes. I'm 51 and only met one other person with the same name as me and that was just briefly.

MadisonAvenue · 25/04/2023 01:07

No. My parents said that they chose my name as it was really popular when I was born which meant I wouldn’t stand out, they did the same when naming my sister too and for the same reason.
I’ve always thought it quite sad that they hoped we’d not stand out in the crowd but just fade into the background.

I use a shortened version which is ever so slightly better but still not one I’d choose. I’m actually embarrased when I have to tell someone my name.

marblemad · 25/04/2023 01:55

Absolutely not, my parents had fairly unusual name options for me and had joked about a name but thought it was 'too common' when I was born my mum was quite unwell, my dad was asked what my name was and he panicked and proceeded to tell everyone for the next 24 hrs or so that the common name was the name they selected. As a compromise my mum upon registering the birth gave me an uncommon middle name. The names they were considering were:
Wednesday
Francesca
Olive
Gabriella
(yes this was the 90's)

EconomyClassRockstar · 25/04/2023 02:03

No, but If I'd been left to choose my own name, it would have been ridiculous. That's why we get to choose our kids' names (and they are also often ridiculous!) .

Motherofalittledragon · 25/04/2023 02:14

Dear god no, my name is horrible!

Findyourneutralspace · 25/04/2023 02:16

Yes. It was very common around the time I was born but it’s a pretty timeless name and I like it. It’s feminine but not overly so. I can imagine a little girl (or an old lady) with my name.

HobnobsChoice · 25/04/2023 02:19

I have no particular feelings about my name. It's not common but everyone has heard the name and it is very of its time, I use a short version of it.
I love my middle name though (Rhian) and kinda wish I had started going by that in my late teens. Until I was about 15 I thought Maria was the most glorious name ever and wished that was my name. No idea why I latched on to it but truly I wished it was my name

blackpearwhitelilies · 25/04/2023 02:20

No. I don’t like my name which was v v popular in the 70s and 80s. I longed to be Katie or Catherine and if I’d had a daughter, she would have been Kate. V annoyingly indeed I was nearly Catriona, which would have allowed for the shortening.

mathanxiety · 25/04/2023 02:20

No, and I wish dad had prevailed over mum. The name he wanted to call me is one of my favourites. The name I ended up with was chosen by an aunt of mine.

GobbieMaggie · 25/04/2023 02:30

I don’t use my first name. Only my parents call me by it.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 25/04/2023 02:57

I changed my name at 14 to my middle name.

Nobody with a non-drug addled brain would chose my birth name

fantasmasgoria1 · 25/04/2023 05:45

No I wouldn't! I have always disliked it but as an adult I have realised there is nothing really wrong with it. If I had been able to name myself it would have been something arty and a bit outlandish!

artimesiasfootsteps · 25/04/2023 05:57

I changed my name when I was 18 to a name that reflects my heritage. I’m second generation, from immigrant parents. I was given a very traditional English name, when I don’t have a drop of English blood in me.
