Definitely. If they weren’t our names, I’d have given mine and my brother’s names to my son and daughter, I think they’re two of the nicest names going, very timeless and simple but lovely. Always loved my name and loads of people say the same when I introduce myself. I did give my son my brother’s name as a middle name (and same for my daughter with my sister’s name although that was more because of my love for her than her name).

SacreBleugh · 25/04/2023 06:23

I like mine. It was very old fashioned when I was little ( I'm 58), but is quite cool now.

Zuve · 25/04/2023 06:24

I like a more common name. Not this one

LT2 · 25/04/2023 06:53

Yes. It's not a common one. Not weird or out there but it has never been popular for some reason!

crossstitchingnana · 25/04/2023 06:56

No. My name says 70s council estate.

Snoopfroggyfrogg · 25/04/2023 07:01

Yes, I think it's a good name! An elegant and timeless first name and a fairly unusual northern surname. Don't love my middle name but it has some family significance.

ralaa · 25/04/2023 07:03

Absolutely not.

My name is SO boring.

I'm early 30's and the only other people I know with the same name are in their late 40's.

romdowa · 25/04/2023 07:09

I'm torn because my name was one of the most popular names in the 80s and I also feel it doesn't suit me. Then again I feel attached to it because it's a family name , my great grandmother and granaunt had the same name .

CoffeeBeansGalore · 25/04/2023 07:16

No. Hate it. Awful middle name as well. Shortened version of very popular 70s/80s name so people assume my "proper" name is the long version. I have spent my life correcting them & the spelling.

ferneytorro · 25/04/2023 07:26

We were having a discussion about whether we liked our names at the weekend. No from me, it’s a very seventies name , the other two women at work with the same name as me are both my age. I’d have liked a “proper” name ie one out of literature/history rather than one that was I assume trendy at the time.

Turtletumy · 25/04/2023 07:32

No, I do t like it.
Funnily enough I was talking to a lady last week who has the same name as me and also hates it, so she changed it to a name she loves.
Isnt it strange that I had never considered doing that😂

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 25/04/2023 07:51

I love my name. It's of my generation and not very common even then but rare in small children now. Good choice by my parents I always think. A

Mooshamoo · 25/04/2023 23:54

Yes it seems very "me" to me.

It's quite unusual and it also has a meaning that I like. I feel it was meant to be my name

CC4712 · 26/04/2023 00:03

I love my name! Its uncommon, but not rare or that unusual. My parents did worry at the time, so gave me a middle name which can be changed into many other versions/names- if I really hated my 1st name. I never did this though, and 40yrs later still love it and get complimented on it.

At high school, my year had 4 Rebeccas, 2 Ambers and 2 Sarahs. I'm so grateful I wasn't given the popular names at the time.

Anotheranonymousname · 26/04/2023 00:27

I'm happy with my first name but would have liked the alternate spelling. My parents went with the Anglicised spelling because they knew I'd end up spelling my last name. As it happens, I've spent 40+ years spelling my first name too!

user1492757084 · 26/04/2023 06:44

I don't dislike my name but I always wanted to be named after the grandmother I never met.

PurpleAirGuitar · 26/04/2023 22:12

I like my name but would have chosen a different spelling, the one people always assume it is!

booksandbrooks · 26/04/2023 22:15

Mines a bit ostentatious to choose for yourself but after years of disliking like, despite it being well liked, it's definitely my name. So I suppose I would, but if people knew I'd chosen it I'd for myself I'd feel a bit silly.

booksandbrooks · 26/04/2023 22:15

Several of my friends have used it in the last few years though.

roorooroorooo · 26/04/2023 22:21

Maybe

You rarely meet a baby Samantha these days Grin

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 26/04/2023 22:22

Definitely not, it's a hideous old lady name from the 1930's and I was born in the seventies. It's never been popular and I've never met another one who was my age or younger.
My Dad didn't like it either but my Mum had always wanted to use it.

Pallisers · 26/04/2023 22:25

I like my name but wouldn't use it myself. It was very unusual when I was growing up - only met someone with the same name in college and she hadn't met one either before me. But it is a normal enough name that people get as soon as they see it or hear it. It has become somewhat popular with babies to some extent now (there is a little Pallisers across the street). My sister's name is a doozie though. Luckily it has a nice contraction (and she doesn't seem that bothered either)

LightDrizzle · 26/04/2023 22:26

No. It’s a bit naff.

HandShoe · 26/04/2023 22:31

No, no I don’t like my middle name either or I would have tried to switch over to that

Mooshamoo · 27/04/2023 00:05

I really like my name because it is a beautiful object , not just a name.

I love names that are things, as they have meaning.

Eg. Names like Amber, it is name and it is a jewel
