One of our close friends has a Teddy, short for Theodore. Personally I love it. It does seem very popular though, not sure if that bothers you or not.

spanieleyes · 12/04/2023 09:19

I only know one, he was fine when little but now, aged 8, he refuses to be called Teddy. He says it's a baby name! Luckily for him, he was christened Edward and that's what he insists he is called. Mum keeps trying to insist he is Teddy but he ignores her!

dietcokelime · 12/04/2023 09:19

Go with Edward or Theodore!! Don't lumber an adult man with the name of Teddy, it's very cute as a DC but gives them the opportunity to change it when they grow up

Easterfunbun · 12/04/2023 09:20

I do like it. I’m not sure on an older lad, Ted would be fine? I have a Freddie and we alternate between that and Fred.

OconsRazor · 12/04/2023 09:20

Absolutely hate it. It's so cutesy and I would hate to be an adult with such an infantilising name.

Mariabombia · 12/04/2023 09:21

We're calling our baby that as a nickname :) short for Edward! I love it 🥰🥰🥰

Hazelnuttella · 12/04/2023 09:21

I don’t love it for a grown man, but I suppose he could use Ted as an adult.

Aquamarine1029 · 12/04/2023 09:21

You're not naming a baby, you're naming an adult.

Teddybearspicnic3 · 12/04/2023 09:22

My little boy goes by Teddy or Ted- we get lovely comments about his name. We've put Edward on his birth certificate so he'd have choice when he's older

Happy2baMum2be · 12/04/2023 09:25

Bot really worried if people hate it
I love it and nothing is going to change that
just wondering about people's actual experiences thanks

Know loads of Teddys. It’s nice but will it be the Neil/Gary/Ian of its time?

Easterfunbun · 12/04/2023 09:27

If you call him Teddy though just stick with that. He can be known as Fred. I think Edward is just ridiculous and bares no resemblance to Teddy. Just unnecessary. Edward and Teddy? Just don’t get it. Two very different names. It’s 2023 by the time their 40, that sort of thing really won’t matter.

Easterfunbun · 12/04/2023 09:27

He can be known as Ted that should have said not Fred.

Happy2baMum2be · 12/04/2023 09:28

I've never actually met or come across anyone called Teddy so just wondered about peoples actual experience

This. He'll hate being called Teddy when he's a CEO or MD!

thankyou I don't understand it either using a name on birth certificate then not using it "just incase"

My nephew us an edward. He was Teddy as a toddler but then it changed as he grew older. Now as an adult he is Edward or Ed.
To give no choice other thsn Teddy would be cruel.

I dont really care if that's you think I wasn't asking for your opinion just people's actual experience with the name
Some people just enjoy trying to knock people down
Clearly there are a few people who enjoy knocking people down on this thread
Good luck to you all
I love the name Teddy and that's all that matters

Unless there’s anyone on here actually called Teddy, people’s “experiences” of the name are going to involve their opinions 🙃

It's just plain bullying I've made my mind up on the name
I love the name and that's all that matters was simply looking for people's actual experiences like I said

A Teddy 🧸 is a plush bear. Cutesy and infantile for a boy/man/girl/woman imo.

Theodore is ok but very overused.

Edward shortens naturally to Ed in my experience.

Tedward? Grin

Skybluepinky · 12/04/2023 10:08

Very popular so could end up in a class with 2 or 3 others. If u like it use it but don’t be shocked when others say I know 4 Teddy’s.

I assume the 8 year old is thinking of Teddy Bear 🧸

ab03 · 12/04/2023 10:11

I know an adult Teddy. I'm not sure if it's to make up for the cute name but he's very assertive and confident!

Ilovecleaning · 12/04/2023 10:11

Close relative was called Teddy. So was a close relative of a friend. Both gone now. I love the name Teddy 😊
