Aurora?

Happy Easter weekend Mumsnetters!
I recently posted re favourite Elle names and think we have settled on Arielle (pronounced Ari-Elle NOT Ariel).
However for some reason Aurora keeps popping into my head. I originally dismissed this as couldn’t think of any nice nicknames other than Rory which I find a bit masculine.
Wondering if you have any experience of alternative nicknames for Aurora and which name of the two you prefer?
TIA

Looks like there’s a couple of votes for DH’s choice 😂

I much prefer Arielle!

shoopshoopdedoo · 07/04/2023 19:02

Oh yes, I really like Flora!

Heroicallyfound · 07/04/2023 19:03

I like Aurora. Reminds me of the singer. But little ones won’t be able to say it!

sunshineandmango · 07/04/2023 19:09

Maybe I need to give Flora more thought, it is beautiful. Maybe I should be asking Aurora or Flora?! 👑🌸

I know a couple who's just had a baby Aurora. It's a lovely name

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/04/2023 19:16

I also know an Aurelia and that is also lovely. Doesn't sound like oral. Wtf lol

junebirthdaygirl · 07/04/2023 19:20

Aurora came out tops on some list recently. Might be US but it is very popular suddenly.
l much prefer Flora.

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/04/2023 19:58

Much prefer Aurora to Arielle

I think Ari works for either

I agree Rori/y is too masculine

TheYearOfSmallThings · 07/04/2023 20:00

There are two Auroras in DS(8)'s year, and they are both just known as Aurora - it doesn't need shortening.

sunshineandmango · 07/04/2023 20:00

@Luredbyapomegranate love the suggestion of Ari as a nickname for Aurora, thank you :)

Love Flora

MaidOfSteel · 07/04/2023 21:00

Arielle and Aurora makes me think you've been watching Sister Wives! One of the wives has girls named Ariella and Aurora!
I definitely think you should consider Flora, though it probably would get shortened to Flo.

custardbear · 07/04/2023 21:05

Aurora is lovely, Ella names I like are Marcella, Mariella, Antonella, Stella, Fenella

Good luck!

sunshineandmango · 07/04/2023 21:07

@MaidOfSteel haha I’ve never seen that programme! Flora is definitely growing on me, although I still very much love Aurora. DH seems to be set on Flora now!

@custardbear thank you for the suggestions.

I teach an Aurora in my reception class and she is the most delightful little girl. A lovely name.

Babyandmexox · 07/04/2023 21:37

I really loved Aurora as a name for my little girl but my partner wouldn’t budge on the name we had agreed on.. would definitely consider it again if I had another girl.. nickname roara. Flora as suggested is beautiful too. I also liked Lillia. But I’ve got an Alyvia (didn’t want the standard name Olivia, so altered it and no one says it right - even though it’s pronounced the same just with a A instead or a O)

DustyLee123 · 07/04/2023 21:38

Makes me think of oral 😳

alexdgr8 · 07/04/2023 21:40

yer havin a larf !

sounds like an orange squash.

sunshineandmango · 07/04/2023 21:46

@Babyandmexox Alyvia is beautiful and unique. Thanks for your comments :)

I think we have more or less ruled out Arielle so Aurora or Flora it is! thanks for all the useful comments on this thread (except maybe the last one which I don’t understand at all 😂🤔)

im getting old

Misknit · 07/04/2023 22:05

It's the name of a song and the album in the book by Taylor Jenkins Reid 'Daisy Jones and the Six' which is now a series on Amazon Prime. Might explain why it's become popular in the States again.

I do like it though.
