Would a child be registered with just a letter as a name? The Scotsman did an article the other day noting unusual names that had been resisted last year, including `Excel’, ‘Queen’, ‘Testimony’, ‘Pacesetter’ and ‘Greatness’, but just the letter ‘J’? How odd.

I've just remembered another one. One of my grandmother's friends, known by everybody as Rita, turned out be Anchorita. My grandmother had known her for decades and only found out her real name on the order of service for her funeral.

Actually, I think it might have been Anchoreeta, the other spelling doesn't look right.
