Is Laurelle just too 'made up'?

Laurel is lovely. Laurelle reminds my of Cushelle toilet roll (sorry!)

Verylongtime · 21/03/2023 19:55

Laurel

Junegirl15 · 21/03/2023 19:55

Laurel

DramaAlpaca · 21/03/2023 19:57

Laurel is better, it's a simple, pretty nature name.

Laurelle looks fussy and I'd want to pronounce it differently to Laurel, with the stress on the 'elle' part.

dementedpixie · 21/03/2023 19:57

I would say them differently.
Laurelle would be more like Lor-Ell
Laurel would be Lorel

Beeswood · 21/03/2023 19:58

I prefer Laurel.

Dotcheck · 21/03/2023 19:58

Lorelle is hand sanitiser . The lurid pink stuff you get in the pound store

slowsundays · 21/03/2023 19:59

Could I realistically use Elle as a nickname for Laurel?

I love the name Laurel. I went to school with a Laurelle but it was pronounced Lor Elle. I prefer Laurel

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/03/2023 20:04

Laurelle looks like a brand name. I'm not a fan.

Laurel is lovely, I often suggest it on here when people are looking for traditional but uncommon names. I don't understand why it's not more popular.

Yika · 21/03/2023 20:05

No I don’t think Elle would work as a nickname for Laurel tbh.
i think Laurel is lovely but you could just go with Elle as a full name?

DuchessOfSausage · 21/03/2023 20:13

Laurelle is dreadful. There must be hundreds of names that would shorten to Elle but Laurel isn't one - unless you use it as a play on L.
Ellie and Ella have been so overused, I'd go with Jay, Kay or Dee instead

Craftybodger · 21/03/2023 20:21

Laurel is a great name.

I agree with others with Laurelle sounding like a brand name. I really don’t like this version.

crosstalk · 21/03/2023 20:22

Laurel. Of course you can nickname her anything you like. Or just call her Elle from the start.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 21/03/2023 20:33

L/El works as a nickname for Laurel. Laurelle would be pronounced differently and looks hyper-feminised.

No.

Could I realistically use Elle as a nickname for Laurel?

Of course! A nickname can be anything you want it to be.

BronnauMawrion · 21/03/2023 20:51

Laurelle sounds like a feminine hygiene product. Laurel and Laura are lovely.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/03/2023 22:50

Yes. Sounds like one of the golden girls.

Laurel is nice

So is Sorrel actually

Could I realistically use Elle as a nickname for Laurel?

You could but I wouldn’t. There are zillions of Elle/Ellie/Ellas about - Laurel is much more interesting

Bimblybomeyelash · 21/03/2023 22:54

Lorelei is better than Lorelle and still gives Elle as a potential nn.

ourflagmeansdeath · 21/03/2023 22:55

I feel like Elle doesn't naturally come with Laurel because it's said Lor-ul. Laurelle would be said Lor-elle so you could use Elle as a nickname, but Laurel is a much prettier name and I dislike Laurelle a lot.

If you really wanted Elle, you could still use it for Laurel but I feel like Laurel doesn't need a shortening as it's a beautiful name anyway and agree with a PP that Elle is everywhere now.

Notegoat · 21/03/2023 22:57

Yes, you can use Elle as a nickname for Laurel because it sounds like you’re using her initial - L.

notangelinajolie · 21/03/2023 23:02

Laurelle sounds like a brand of toilet paper.
Laurel is lovely but Elle isn’t the most obvious name you could shorten it to.
If you want to call your DD Elle then do that. What’s the point in calling her Laurelle/Laurel if you really want to call her Elle?
Just pick Elle.
Which is also lovely btw.

user1492757084 · 22/03/2023 06:56

I know woman named Laurel and Laurelle, Lorel.
Pronounced LOR-el and Lau-RELLE.
If you wish to make a nick name of Elle then choose Laurelle or Lorelle.
