Do you like this name? How many do you know?
Is it too bold for a new baby?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PlumberProblems · 21/03/2023 18:40

Yes I know a Frank. He is 2. I think it suits him. A classic.

Twoinapod · 21/03/2023 18:41

Not a fan of it. Makes me think of a large, bald heavily tattooed man from the east end

FASDE1517 · 21/03/2023 18:41

Love it. I quite a few (I'm a teacher). It's very lovely though.

ourflagmeansdeath · 21/03/2023 18:41

I dislike it unfortunately 😥But I love Francis which could have the nickname Frank.

Aily17 · 21/03/2023 18:42

It's a nice name

misslomi · 21/03/2023 18:42

Love it!

Would go for Francis though so can be shortened to Frank/Frankie.

Snoopystick · 21/03/2023 18:43

Francis as other posters have said with nn Frank

ClaraThePigeon · 21/03/2023 18:44

It's an incredibly ugly and harsh sounding name. Yet for some reason every second Mumsnetter seems to be obsessed with it or Francis at the moment.

SummaLuvin · 21/03/2023 18:59

Frank is brilliantly elegant - short, sharp, and swish. It is a standalone name that doesn't need to be short for anything, Francis is rather 'meh' as far as I am concerned.

shoopshoopdedoo · 21/03/2023 19:07

I love it! I know one in his 30s and he’s very cool, and one baby Frank (Francis)

Robot278 · 21/03/2023 19:25

Yes we have been considering Francis for the birth certificate but calling him Frank/Frankie
It seems like Francis for the birth certificate is the most popular option

MyMumsOnMN · 21/03/2023 19:26

Frankie is better than Frank.

mac1974 · 21/03/2023 19:29

I know a 2 yo frank. He's gorgeous. The name really suits him.

Enko · 21/03/2023 19:33

I like Frank a great deal. Cool dude name

Francis to me is wet and blah I don't like it at all.

DramaAlpaca · 21/03/2023 19:35

To be honest, I think it's an incredibly ugly and harsh name.

Francis is fine but only as a middle name where it won't get shortened

hattymattie · 21/03/2023 19:35

I'm old so I think of Frank Spencer. I'd go for Francis.

Mumof1andacat · 21/03/2023 19:47

Francis on the birth certificate. Frank is an OK nickname. Frankie is more of a nickname for girls call Frances (female spelling)

Summerpetal · 21/03/2023 19:52

I have a 14 year old frank ..suits him
not come across any other the same age yet

Robot278 · 21/03/2023 19:52

Is there any pronunciation difference between Francis and Frances?!
I worth Francis is terribly feminine as per a few posters on here

OP posts:
Carsarelife · 21/03/2023 19:55

I really like it. I prefer Frank to Frankie

PinkSyCo · 21/03/2023 19:56

It must be back in fashion because there have been so many threads asking opinions on it lately. I think it’s an awful name though.

in my accent no difference, but perhaps in a more 'proper' southern accent there would be.

To clarify I don't think Francis is terribly feminine, I just find it drab, especially compared to Frank which I love. If you go for Francis on BC planning to call. him Frank you will have to accept one day he might choose to just be Francis.

Francis is male and Frances is female. No pronunciation difference

longestlurkerever · 21/03/2023 20:02

I think there is a slight pronunciation difference - said as they're spelt. I was surprised to hear someone say it was a unisex name recently.
