What's the nicest boys name you ever heard?
Did you use it wish you used it it or a saving it for the future?

Nathan, but then I ended up working with someone with that name and he was a nice enough guy, but a bit full of himself, and I really didn't want him thinking we'd named DS after him so I chose a different name instead😀

I've wanted to use Ezra and Lawrence but been vetoed.
I get the love for James.

Caleb is nice

If my DD had been a DS she'd have been Zac or Victor .
I used those names for two of my motorcars instead !

My favourite boys name is Malachy, but having no Irish connections, it somehow feels inappropriate to use.

August - would have used if ex had agreed.

Astala - as above but not sure if I'd be brave enough.

It's a big deal when you name a child, it's a moniker they'll carry for their whole life so think carefully, it's not just about "beauty" - can it be abbreviated? Will they suffer at school because of it (Cornelious)? Will it suit a teen and an adult? Will it work internationally (pretty hard for a lot of Welsh names)?

I went for HUGO

I had a great Uncle Cornelius.
I never knew him.
When I found out I was fascinated by the name, I think its ace.

Bahhhhhumbug · 11/03/2023 04:21

Saul - a Hebrew name meaning 'longed for' .
Very rare never hear it used and will never understand why Paul is so common, yet Saul is so much less so.
Only had one son who exh /his dad insisted be called by a long standing family traditional name for first born sons.

I lost a baby with current DH later in life who l was going to call Saul so the name was never meant to be for me sadly but l do love it.

I like names where you can have a variety of shortenings so:
Robert - can be Rob, Bob, Robbie, Bert or Bertie
William- can be, Will, Bill or Billy as well as Wills
Theodore- can be Theo, Ted or Teddy

For girls I love
Elizabeth- can be Liz, Lizzie Beth, Bessie or Eliza
Charlotte- can be Lottie, Charlie
Isabella- can be Izzy, Bella or Belle

Dyslexicwonder · 11/03/2023 06:08

The name I'd have loved to use is Ravi (I am white british) I just love it, it means the sun (as in the sunshine of my life) and every Ravi I have ever known has been an absolutely lovely man. But I think it would have been cultural appropriation.

Onemorewaferthinmint · 11/03/2023 06:09

If we had had a girl she would have been called Matilda (or Tilly)

Also love the Irish girl names

aoife
roisin
sorcha

etc
