Do you think of Elliot as classless? And do you like it? Be kind -my brain is fried!

I love Elliot, I don't think its implies any particular class- its just a nice normal name that could suit anyone.

Thanks! This is what I’m hoping but I’m stressing myself out 😂

Yes, it's a name whose owner can take it anywhere.

billthefrog · 03/03/2023 19:41

I love it. No connotations at all just a great name.

R0ckets · 03/03/2023 19:41

I like it but around here it's being used a lot more for girls I've met 3 in the past few months all under 4. All shortened to Ellie which baffles me as Elliot for a girl isn't mega common but the name Ellie is so overdone.

I suspect like lots of boys names it will grow in popularity for girls and soon be used predominantly as a female name which would sadly put me off using it.

My youngest has this name...
He is the most loving, selfless, happy and bright boy. He is definitely not classless

Calmondeck · 03/03/2023 19:44

Love it! I’d use it if DH’s best friend wasn’t an Elliot

Oh by classless I meant that it wasn’t seen as posh or otherwise!

Are you in the UK?

I don't feel it's particularly classless -- but it's not exactly a classy name either.
So -- it's not run of the mill, not Jaxon or Hugo but leans a bit towards the former, IMO.

FakeBilly · 03/03/2023 19:53

I don’t think it’s classless — I’d have said it codes LMC.

ThewaytoAmarula · 03/03/2023 19:55

I've predominantly seen it used by young transboys/men/NB young people in my area - maybe they were formerly called Elly or Eleanor, or it's seen as a good "sexless" name? And there's Elliot Page I suppose

ThewaytoAmarula · 03/03/2023 19:58

Not saying that as a negative thing, by the way, just something I've noticed and a connotation the name might have picked up.

R0ckets · 03/03/2023 20:05

Are you in the UK?

Yes. I've been very surprised it seems to be on the rise as I'm not even in what would be considered a very trendy area.

OneCup · 03/03/2023 20:06

I wouldn't see it as classless, no. I'd say lower middle class not that there's anything wrong with it!)

She meant it doesn’t belong to a particular class.

In my region it’s more WC. Tends to be brothers of Lily-maes, Archies , Maddisons , Jaxons etc.

Its a nice name.

Hmm ok - we have a Henry so maybe it doesn’t go…

@barca123 , do you have a new baby already registered with this name, or am I getting you mixed up with another poster?
It's a nice name.

Henry is gorgeous! I wouldn’t immediately think of Elliot when thinking of a sibling for Henry.

I’ve recently named my baby boy and some suggestions I really liked which I think would sound nice with Henry were Jasper, Louis, Jack, Joseph.

I like Jack but worried it’s just everywhere!

I love Jack and very nearly picked it for my son. I have 3 in school and honestly, I think it’s much less common now than it was say 5/6 years ago. There are no Jacks in any of my Childrens classes. I’ve been to a couple of baby groups with my son in the last couple of weeks and we’re yet to meet a Jack.

CastleTower · 03/03/2023 20:23

I know two brothers called Elliot and Henry as it happens. I think they go together well.

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 03/03/2023 20:24

Love Elliott (with 2 T’s), if I’d had a boy I would have called him that. I think it’s a smart but not snobby name, would go well with Henry. I wouldn’t have said any particular class but perhaps more middle class than others.

What did you choose?

OP posts:
CorvusPurpureus · 03/03/2023 20:30

Eliott is definitely LMC these days. & dated - it had its day 20 years ago.

But that's only if you worry about following the crowd.

It's a nice enough name.

I wouldn't choose it, but there's nothing wrong with it.
