What do you think of when you think of Cecily

My first thought is that Cecily was medieval princess
daughter of William of Normandy and sister-in-law to Henry VII

when I think of Cecily I think of medieval times, of medieval tapestries and medieval English field with sunshine on it

second thing I think of is Saint Cecilia, the patron of musicians, but not because I'm religious, but because it's so rare name where I'm from

I also think of meaning "blind" I think of Saint Lucia (common Saint where I'm from) holding the plater with her eyes - this was iconographic when I was a kid, my gradma had some portrait in such manner.

another thing I think of is that ceci is chickpea in Italy... they got calling chickpea chocolate cookies Cecile.

What do you think of when you think of Cecily or Cecilia?

I think it is quite a nice name for a girl. I have no other thoughts about it.

Comedycook · 17/02/2023 10:51

Wet

The Importance of being Earnest

Essexgirlupnorth · 17/02/2023 10:52

Yep Cecily Neville mainly due to reading Philippa Gregory's war of the roses books

NeedToKnow101 · 17/02/2023 10:55

I think of my friend's mum, who is lovely.
I actually love the name Cecelia, but not Cecily.

AlmostSummer21 · 17/02/2023 10:56

I think of posh people telling me I am pronouncing it wrong.

Strugglingtodomybest · 17/02/2023 10:58

I think of the song and my late MIL. Loved her, hated her name. Not sure why!

Ticktocktimebomb · 17/02/2023 11:00

I prefer Cecilia but I really like both. They’re both quite old fashioned and they bring to mind elegance for me.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 17/02/2023 11:01

Bit drippy,.

msbevvy · 17/02/2023 11:06

I think of Cecil, Sideshow Bob's brother in the Simpsons.

TeenDivided · 17/02/2023 11:09

Importance of being Earnest here too.

Flowery and cucumber sandwiches.

Nice name, not common.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 17/02/2023 11:09

I don't like either, too many sss sounds which I personally don't find pleasant to say/hear. Also adds a potential problem if the child or a sibling or a friend has a lisp. Thethily. Nope.

Cecilia I just think of the song.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 17/02/2023 11:25

Cecily Strong, the very funny comedy actress who was on SNL until recently. I also think of Atonement by Ian McEwan but that's my brain playing tricks as I'm sure she was a Cecilia.

Lovely name. It will be lispy when children are very small but that will be super cute and doesn't last long.

Ladyofthesea · 17/02/2023 11:31

A curly girl at uni that I used to know.

Absolutely this. I think of it as a refined and genteel name, however, I prefer Cecelia or just Celia.
