Not keen personally.. Rose and Marie for second name?

LulooLemon · 15/02/2023 12:14

I like it. And no one will ask where the roast is. 🤣

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 15/02/2023 12:23

I love it and I'm glad it's coming back along with "old" names like Anne, Jane, Mary etc. Plus there's a ton of options for nn (Rose, Rosie, Romy etc)

APurpleSquirrel · 15/02/2023 12:59

My DD has it as one of her middle names, it was my mum's middle name too. I love it but agree it will get shortened.

SouthCountryGirl · 15/02/2023 16:06

It's my middle name. Too old lady I think! A relative has a shortened version of it

OhLookCriedNed · 15/02/2023 16:09

@Luredbyapomegranate What do you mean? I'm sure it happens all the thyme.

Yika · 15/02/2023 16:15

I think it’s lovely and very versatile in terms of shortenings and nicknames.

NewtyJESUS · 15/02/2023 16:24

Old fashioned but good with some Lamb!

SnottyLottie · 15/02/2023 16:47

I like it, it’s got that lovely old lady vintage style but not yet overused (I’m looking at you Evie, Ada, Elsie etc). It’s also got loads of potential nicknames (Rose, Rosie, Mary, Romy).

notacooldad · 15/02/2023 16:49

Some kids might be cruel and ask where the roast is but kids will always find something to be mean about
Nobody had ever asked my sister about a roast!🤣🤣

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 15/02/2023 16:55

I honestly can't see 'roast' being a thing - it's too convoluted for the school playground, and lamb is so expensive nowadays that it's assuming the status of a rare treat.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 15/02/2023 16:59

I love it. I like all the Rose names! Rosemary is nice because it does have a bit of gravitas to it, in my opinion. You could be quite a serious Rosemary!

Re. Roast dinner bullying, I was a teacher for 12 years and I never came across any name related teaching quite that tenuous (or middle class!).

Mavericksaviators · 15/02/2023 17:48

Twins in my daughters year called Rosemary and Patricia ( year 9)

OhLookCriedNed · 15/02/2023 16:09

@Luredbyapomegranate What do you mean? I'm sure it happens all the thyme.

Sage advice there. Is it a big dill though?

BeethovenNinth · 15/02/2023 21:50

Gorgeous, as are the shortened versions. Beautiful herb

FiloPasty · 15/02/2023 21:52

I also think West unfortunately

Imogensmumma · 15/02/2023 05:31

I love it, as long as you are happy it will get shortened to Rose or Rosie…

Some kids might be cruel and ask where the roast is but kids will always find something to be mean about

That's a helluva stretch....

Germolenequeen · 15/02/2023 22:10

I have only known one Rosemary and she was a real bully herself - it's a definite no from me 😬

DaveSpud · 16/02/2023 00:50

My mum is called Rosemary and she absolutely hates it.

It has never been shortened though, everyone calls her by her full name

ourflagmeansdeath · 16/02/2023 00:54

Think it's very pretty and lovely. I don't think you need to worry about shortenings if you don't like them, you can choose your one and people will go with it. For example, there are so many Isabella's who go by Bella which isn't the first nickname is it? And I know plenty of Alexandra's etc. who go by their full name. And anyway, I think Rosie and Mary are pretty nicknames. So go for it, I think Rosemary's really, really lovely and not "frumpy" at all! xx

Epicstorm · 16/02/2023 01:41

No to Rosemary but I love Rosa. Yea

Epicstorm · 16/02/2023 01:42

Don’t know where yea came from.

Everyonehasavoice · 16/02/2023 01:56

It’s a beautiful name, I’m amazed we don’t see more children with it.

Lovely, classic.

OhLookCriedNed · 16/02/2023 16:23

@MoggyMittens23 You're right, it's no big dill. If it's mint to be, it's mint to be.
