Micah pronunciation

We have a 8 month old called Micah, we love not too popular names but never wanted to give our child a name with ambiguous pronunciation.

70% of health professionals I have come into contact with so far have mispronounced his name “Me-kah” instead of “My-kah”.

Will he will have to correct people his whole life and if so should we consider changing it before he gets any older?

My name is Myka. I’m a girl but have always liked my name- some mispronounce some get it right. I wouldn’t change it though. It’s mainly a boys name but my spelling is Russian.

Unless you’re my DH, who persists in pronouncing it as ‘Mick-a’ Richards

My-kuh like the Mica silicate minerals.

Though I can see how people might pronounce it me-shuh or me-kuh. It looks very similar to Mica which I would say me-shuh.

It's one of those names that people often aren't sure of how to say, a bit like Helena.

From reading it I pronounced it as Me-kah

Me-ka only know one and that’s how she pronounces it. I didn’t even know it was a masculine name tbh, never head of Micah Richards but I can’t abide football.

I’d say me-kah. But I would only make this mistake once and, after you’d corrected me, I’d use your pronunciation! People mispronounce my little one’s name, but if needed I just correct them and it’s fine!

Hey @Kay4546 I have a daughter named Myka and she gets ‘meeka’ instead of ‘my-ka’ (literally how it’s spelt!!) sometimes too! I knew it would happen. Thankfully I don’t absolutely hate that name, I have a friendly acquaintance named Mika and I always liked her name too. We got Myka for a girl from the show warehouse 13.

Glad you like your name! I had a bit of a wobble after I named my daughter Myka because receptionists/docs or people who asked her name would would assume she was a boy (fair enough) but I absolutely love it 😊

Personally I would change the spelling so it's more obvious. Like many others I'd pronounce it Me-ka. If you want it pronounced Myka, then I'd spell it Myka.

My-kah. That's how the prophet is pronounced around here, and how I pronounce the mineral mica.

Me-kah doesn't make sense to me. The only word starting mic but not pronounced my that I can think of is miscellaneous but that would give you Mick-ah rather than Me-kah.

I have never heard of the singer.

Yes however girls do also pronounce it ‘me-ka’

Inwould say Mee ka. But dont think its a huge problem. It was just a guess.
