Nice and classic or boring and dated?

I like Carrie.

glasshole · 27/01/2023 09:54

I know two, i went to school with a carline and a carolyn and both nicknames are caz . Pepe are right about the ages, we are 43!

LightHousePanda · 27/01/2023 10:13

It's a classic name but I know a few in their 40s so it still seems like it needs some time to come around again. That said I don't think it's as tied to a decade as some other names so could work.

Unicorn2022 · 27/01/2023 10:14

It's a classic, I really like it

balloontrip · 27/01/2023 10:26

If by nickname you mean 'known as' then just call her Carrie.

Toottooot · 27/01/2023 10:29

Cazza.

AnotherSpare · 27/01/2023 10:34

I love the name Caroline! I think Carrie is a sweet nickname for a child but I've always thought Caro sounds very classy and glamorous so that works better when she grows up.

louderthan · 27/01/2023 11:05

I like it a lot.

DorritLittle · 27/01/2023 11:07

I love it and think it is a classic, but then I am a fan of popular 70s names and chose one myself.

unicornpower · 27/01/2023 11:54

It’s my name and tbh I always hated it, it felt really old fashioned and I used to envy all the Emma, Amy and Katies that I went to school with. I don’t LOVE it now but I’m less bothered by it. To me it’s just not a very pretty name, I wouldn’t give it to either of my daughters as a name or middle name tbh but I think that’s just me!

no one ever called me Carrie either which maybe I would’ve preferred

mumonherphone · 27/01/2023 12:39

Caroline is a bit dated to me and hasn't really made a comeback. I like Carrie though and also Kerrie/Kerry

user1492757084 · 27/01/2023 12:52

Caroline is fine but I love Carla.

bellarosabella · 27/01/2023 12:58

Boring and 70s.

It also makes me think of Little House on the Prairie and the countryside.

It's very country and 70s (either 1970s or 1870s). In the 2070s it will probably be cool again.

CornflakesOnTheSolesOfHerShoes · 27/01/2023 13:05

I love Caroline (or did until I had a completely poisonous boss whose name it was) and don’t associate it with any particular age. She’d get Sweet Caroline sung at her all the time though!
I’ve known Carolines who go by Caro, Caz, Cazzie and Carlie, or don’t shorten it. Don’t think I’ve ever met a Carrie irl, funnily enough, but it’s pretty.

arghtriffid · 27/01/2023 14:09

It is definitely a regal name in origin. I like it a lot and has always been underused.

It is also a strong female name.

emmathedilemma · 27/01/2023 14:15

Not for me, it's a name of my generation that I don't think is due a comeback just yet. Also, the only ones I've known have been nn'd Caz which is truly awful. If you like Carrie, I'd just call her that.

Epicstorm · 27/01/2023 14:42

Nothing wrong with (Sweet) Caroline although people will probably confuse it with Carolyn which could be annoying. Don’t like Carrie . Reminds me of Carrie Johnson. Two Carolines I know are in their late sixties and around 50. One always gets her full name and the other gets Caz.

SparkyBlue · 27/01/2023 15:29

I like it. I only know one Carrie and she is in her thirties and a lovely person. It's a classic name it won't date.

Ontopofthesunset · 27/01/2023 15:40

I don't hate it but it just sounds like the verb 'carry', so I find it a bit odd as a name. Also not particularly positive associations for me: the film Carrie, Carrie doesn't live here anymore, Carrie's War (not a bad character but such a sad book), Carrie Johnson...

cravingtoblerone · 27/01/2023 19:50

Classic, but not my taste.

I'd just go for Carrie tbh. Sounds way nicer...

wishing3 · 27/01/2023 19:51

Unexpected and lovely. Not sure classic but definitely classy.

Judgyjudgy · 27/01/2023 20:00

Boring. I like Carrie, why have a name to have a nn? Just have the name?

ladydiggins · 27/01/2023 20:18

My (just turned 18) DD is a Caroline. Named after a much loved sister, a great-grandmother (her GG) and a beloved aunt (her G aunt). She took a bit of stick in the early years at school about it (also for being half-French, another story) but she loves her name now. Aunt was known as Carrie but not sis or DD. I cant comment on my GG Grandmother' NN as she died in 1924.

Roseyposeypudding · 28/01/2023 06:49

In my husbands culture nicknames are very important and chosen at birth , so we couldn’t choose a first name without considering nicknames for cultural reasons. It’s not that I only like Carrie and am using Caroline to get to Carrie. I like both names. Also Caro and Callie as suggested are lovely too! But do like Caroline a lot as a full name.

I think Caroline is classic and not too overused. Most of the Carolines I've known have not used a short form but I think Carrie is quite acceptable. There's Carrie Johnson who is not a great role model, but I think she'll fairly soon be forgotten.
