I'm really devestated as I wanted Amelia originally but found out my pregnant best friend is using that! And have really gone off it since!

But Ive loved this name since being little...

Ah ok - crossed with your last post .

TsarChasm · 06/02/2008 12:35

I've always liked it too. Reminds me of the book Love for Lydia.

I don't get the labia connection. God you could twist most names into something awful if you tried. It doesn't jump out as a name that could be messed with.

Disenchanted · 06/02/2008 12:50

Im going to keep working on him! Lol

Im not teloling ANYONE in real life!

As i told my best friend about Amelia and now shes nicked it (she doesnt know I know shes gonna have it, her mum told my mum!)

I love the name Lydia - I suggested it to DH too but he wasn't keen. Had a DS instead so moot point!

mustsleep · 06/02/2008 13:13

ooooh i like that (quickly writes it onto the list)

margoandjerry · 06/02/2008 13:31

It's lovely. And it reminds of that Dean Friedman song "Lydia Lydia". Hope that doesn't put you off.

lollipopmother · 06/02/2008 14:05

I like Lydia and that's saying something because I don't like many names at all at the moment. I wouldn't worry if your husband doesn't like it, unless he can come up with a name that you also love someone has to cave, and seeing as you're the one carrying it round for 9 months and then pushing it out of something that is faaar too small you should get the final say!

dizzydixies · 06/02/2008 19:42

oh oh can I be really mean, if she doesn't know you know but you know because of mothers then pass it back through the grapevine that you've gone off it for some reason or other then she might not be smug about it - god just realised how mean I am

love LOVE LOVE Lydia by the way - am off to add it to my list and hoping thats ok as I don't know you and am certainly not considering Amelia at this time so know you're not my bf!

alfiesbabe · 06/02/2008 19:58

Lydia is absolutely beautiful, and it's a proper name too, and not nearly as popular as Amelia. Go for it!!

HalyconDays · 06/02/2008 22:10

Lydia reminds me of the Fame movie - think there was a character called Lydia in it..

I prefer Amelie to Amelia.

PortAndLemon · 06/02/2008 22:20

Love Lydia. Sadly DH has an ex-girlfriend named Lydia and would feel odd using it.

pootleflump · 06/02/2008 22:21

As long as you don't live in Scotland, there she will be called 'Lydia Teapot'

Tinker · 06/02/2008 22:26

Gorgeous name! Pretty when they're a little girl and quite sophisticated sounding when they're a woman.

abigaillockhart · 06/02/2008 22:31

Love it!! Wanted to name DD Lydia but it's my MIL's name so felt a bit weird. It's her middle name instead - like Lydie for short.

ChinaSurprise · 06/02/2008 22:57

I came up with a couple of names which had DH saying "she would get called labia" but really, I don't think I even heard the word till I was in late teens.
Was discussing names with DH tonight and we agreed that a child's personality is far more likely to dictate whether they will be teased than what name you give them. I've got a great name (if I say so myself!) but was a swot at school so I got it in the neck big time. My PFB is going to have a really unusual name (top secret, even on MN) and I figure whether she's teased or not will have little to do with it.

laundrylover · 06/02/2008 23:08

I really like Lydia but how about Olivia as an altenative for your DH?

stleger · 06/02/2008 23:18

All Lydia's are lovely!

ladette · 06/02/2008 23:18

my DH didn't like several of my favourite girls names, including one I'd liked since I was a little girl (Zoe - which DH hated and it broke my heart at the time). We eventually agreed on another name and really happy with it... once DD was here, suddenly having "my" name became less important somehow.

runnyhabbit · 06/02/2008 23:25

Lydia is lovely

Dh absolutely hated ds1 name, I loved it. The day after he was born dh told me I was right

Dorasmum · 24/02/2008 00:05

Gorgeous name = I wanted a Lydia but H would only agree on Olivia - closest I could get!!

I was just re-reading one of the Gemma books by Noel Streatfeild and there is a Lydia in it, she's a dancer and the family call her Lydie. I was wandering about yesterday going "Lydia. Lydia. Lydie." DH asked me what I was going on about and I said I just thought it was a lovely name if we had another dd. He now thinks I'm broody - I'm not!

nappyaddict · 24/02/2008 00:55
