Glad you are off Amelia - in dd's year at school there are 3 , and each of their mums is very upset as they thought their Amelia would be the only one....

But Lydia is truly beautiful (in fact I wish I had thought of it when I had dd)

EVERY name has some rhyme or connotation with it.

TBH i dont think Lydia sounds anything like Labia and wouldnt make the connection myself.

my nan was lydia ( she was german) was going to call it dd but changed it at last minute

I didn't mean to be horrid.. Just stating a fact. I'm speaking from experience (and no it's not my name). I agree that whilst children will make up nickname there are so real names that lend themselves more easily I think.

I love it but my DH vetoed it too.

I like Lydia too. The only negative association I have with it is the silly sister in P&P that runs off with Mr. Wickham but that's hardly worth avoiding it for.

Still... if your DH doesn't like it I guess it may not be a goer.

I don't like it - sorry! Although it's probably because my old history teacher was called "Lydia" and I didn't like her much.

MOH is right - chances are someone WOULD call her labia!

And i think during 'piss taking' teenagers are more likely to think along the lines of 'fanny' or 'p*ssy' rather than the correct term of 'labia' So I think Lydia will be safe

I was at school with a Lydia - she was annoyingly gorgeous (blonde curly hair, blue eyes, thin etc) and nice. I like the name, but it is quite old fashioned, so maybe it has the wrong connotations for your dh?

Does it really matter what we think of it if your dh doesn't like it?

I would be impressed with any teenager at the piss-taking age even knowing the term labia. I'd like to think by the time they know the proper terms they have also outgrown infantile teasing.

And children will get teased no matter what.

And to go from Lydia to Labia is quite a leap, especially for a 13 year old boy....
