Out of interest for boy or girl?

Is that the name in the birth certificate or the nickname you are giving Raphael/Rafferty etc?

Lovely for a Poodle or something similar. Not for a human child, no.

what can one say about Raffy?

I like it but would want a formal version for registering.

A relative has a Rafferty, who gets called Raffy for short. It suits him.

Oh for goodness sake!!

I've got a donkey called Raffy. Consider how that name would sound on an adult, you're naming a person not a pet.

If short for Raphael or similar fine.
If a name on its own, no.

Oh I love donkeys. Does bray with joy when he sees you and run over for a lovely nuzzle?

I like it. I follow a lady on insta with the most gorgeous Raffy.

For a dog yes, a baby no. Imagine phoning solicitors, or doctors, or any company and asking for Raffy. just no.

I know many Raffys and Rafis but they are all short for Rafael/Raphael or occasionally Rafferty.
I really wouldn't use it alone.

are you sure it’s a name? For a human? It makes me think of a scruffy cat, possibly with bitten off bits of ear and half a tail.

It's not my preference, I've seen it as a toddler nickname for Raphael, on its own its a bit childish.
Its sounds like a posh boy nickname like he'd be running around with Biffo, Fenners, Monty and Tuppy. Also sort of reminds me of Raffia drinks coasters

thats odd - I see it as the opposite of posh.

As a nickname it’s cute for a toddler, as a full name they have to live with, definitely not

Report
Viviennemary · 20/01/2023 17:58

. Doesn't even sound like a name, Ok for nickname.

RaininSummer · 20/01/2023 17:58

Nice nickname but please use a more dignified full name for the poor child

Redburnett · 20/01/2023 17:58

I cannot imagine an adult being happy with name Raffy, so perhaps best avoided. It also made me think of Ratty, not a very nice nickname.

I think it’s a fine nn for Raphael or Rafe (or Rafferty if you must) but not a name on its own

You should put Raffles the Gentleman Thief on his birth cert. Raffy for short.

I taught a lovely Rafi, short for Rafik.

As a nick name for Rafferty or Raphael absolutely yes, it's lovely - I know one
