Thoughts on the name Twyla?

I recently came across the name Twyla. I love how it sounds & it’s unusual without being too crazy. I definitely don’t know any Twyla’s. What’s other people’s thoughts on it? Will also take other name suggestions. Thanks.

Sunday is a no for me. I don’t think you’re looking for anything very traditional like Matilda?
your middle name being rose doesn’t preclude you using rosie at all btw.

Don’t mind traditional I like Victoria & Evangeline just not considering them as they would be shortened & don’t like when names are shortened like vicky, Eva etc.

I like Poppy, twyla makes me think of the toilet. Rosie is cute I don't think your middle name affects that one but too girly for me.
Can't say I'm overly keen on Poppy but I had a dog named poppy, it's better than the others i guess.

It's unusual. And a little odd. But it IS a name - and meaning Twilight is quite lovely.

There's also a Monster High doll by that name.

Go for it if you don't mind the Schitta Creek refs (I've never seen it).

IDontWantToBeAPie · 17/01/2023 15:34

I also LOVE Sunday. It's a great name. Very cool but also sweet imo. It won't be too unusual by the time she's grown.

Southern USA redneck stripper

Nailed it lol. The first post sums up the answer so well.

Twat…. 🥴
Poppy is lovely for a baby/ little girl/ golden retriever but into adulthood.. not so much 🤨

MavisCruet2023 · 17/01/2023 15:55

Twyla Tharp - ballet dancer.

Twyla would be a no from me.

cravingtoblerone · 17/01/2023 16:00

Loathe Twyla.

Poppy not my choice personally but Ok.

My last name I like … Sunday. Thoughts? Before I stick with poppy

I like Sunday and Twyla more than Poppy. I think people here are bit too traditional and rude and dislike Twyla because it's more American name and unusual.
That said, I think more people in RL and online will like Poppy over Twyla or Sunday.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 17/01/2023 16:07

I think it's awful. No apostrophe needed in the plural 'Twylas' either.

I like it because of schitts creek. The character was lovely & name sounded sweet. I didn’t realise it was a popular US name. Never ever heard before 2 years ago.

Tbh I don’t think my partner will go for Sunday it was a miracle he liked poppy he’s very plain & simple.

You what now?
Just no.

LaLuz7 · 17/01/2023 16:57

Sunday? Really?

Only if you hate your baby and want to complicate their existence unnecessarily...

AnotherNameChangeYes · 17/01/2023 17:08

I find Poppy too cutesy personally, fine on a toddler but doesn’t feel like a grown up name, it’s also really popular, I work with kids and hear it a lot. But if you love then use it!

Not keen on Sunday, or Twyla. I really like Luna but it’s a really popular dog’s name.

Rose1111 · 17/01/2023 17:16

Okay lol very last name as it was at the bottom of my very small list since the others have been a fail. Freya?

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Twyla the name of Barbies cat from the Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses movie?

So that would put me off the name a wee bit.

januaryjan · 17/01/2023 19:03

If you want something different then you could consider Blathnaid which is
pronounced Blah-nid.

It is an old Irish name meaning flower/blossom

TrodOnLegoAgain · 17/01/2023 12:04

Love it because it makes me think of the brilliant dancer and choreographer, Twyla Tharp.

Same!

LimitIsUp · 17/01/2023 20:22

Pregnancy brain does strange things - I considered some weird names whilst I was pregnant (Fenton for a boy and Celeste for a girl - what was I thinking?). Twyla is one such off beat bizarre name

AnotherNameChangeYes · 17/01/2023 21:40

Freya is very popular! Thing is, Poppy and Freya are perfectly nice names, they’re just also very common and I hear both a lot.

That’s strange cos I’ve never heard either of them where I live I don’t know or know of anyone with those names here.

Freya is better than both Poppy and Twyla imo. I like it better than Rosie too. I'd put them in this order - Freya, Twyla, Rosie then Poppy. Freya and Twyla aren't cutesy names and I think would suit an adult better, although as people have said Twyla is a bit unusual.

I appreciate the honesty it’s fine I’ll cross it off my list lol since there’s brutal people in the room then what about Poppy?

I love poppy. It was my girls name but having a wee boy Munro.
