Love classic names- literally couldn't care less about popularity before anyone comments on that. Baby is coming in less than a month and we don't yet know the sex.

Boy:
Edward
George

Girl:
Eliza
Emily

I'm really not fussed about duplicates, hence saying in my OP about not caring about popularity- it's just the lesser chance of their being duplicates these days that is one small reason why I don't care about popularity.

Ottilie was perhaps a bad example. Although it is still less popular than all of my choices, so my point I suppose is that you wouldn't expect to find duplicates when my older children have names ranging from the teens-30 in popularity and they've never been a duplicate. It's all a chance game really- and so I think not suing a name 'in case' there are duplicates is a bit of a foolish reason.

It's my thinking that in general the 'popular' names are popular for a reason, especially the steadfastly ones- they're mostly universally liked, well known, therefore easy to pronounce and spell as well.

I am however keen to avoid any names that have shot up in popularity suddenly (much like Ottilie) as I think they're much more likely to date badly.

Classic, always popular names are the way forward for me personally.

@nameconundrum No issues if it's not something you personally care about, I just wanted to explain about Ottilie as I'm a name nerd 😂

The names you've chosen are fine and meet your criteria :)

I love Eliza ( I would use Elizabeth) I have both an aunt and a cousin called Elizabeth and would still use it (The other name in the running for a baby girl born tommorw is Jessica). Edward for me is head and shoulders above George which is just a bit dull. We will also have another King Geroge one day.

Eliza and Edward are lovely. I'd also just wait and see which feels right when you meet your baby.

Lovely names. Teddy is one of my favourite diminutives. Eliza seems a little more robust than Emily which has a slightly spinstery whiff
