Love classic names- literally couldn't care less about popularity before anyone comments on that. Baby is coming in less than a month and we don't yet know the sex.

Boy:
Edward
George

Girl:
Eliza
Emily

Edward and Eliza

I'm afraid you do get duplicates OP. There is a much broader range of names, yes. Particularly in multicultural areas, but some names do come up time and time again. All of my DCs have more than one Isabelle (if you include the various spellings) Amelia and Alice in their classes. Emily is not far behind. There is at least one Daniel in every class at our primary school. Oscar and Oliver always have their surname attached too. I remember a mother & baby class I went to with 3 newborn Darceys. There were only 9 babies in the whole class and all of the Darcey's mothers were a bit put out as they had thought it an original choice.

Edward is nice but I'm not keen on Ted

You must mean Ed. It's Edward and not Tedward Confused

Not usually a fan of classics but love all of these. I vote Edward and Eliza.

Edward (Ted) & Eliza

cptartapp · 18/12/2022 19:36

Edward in its entirety. If you're going with Ted then I prefer George.
Emily.

2chocolateoranges · 18/12/2022 19:38

George or Emily.

dd was very nearly and Emily .

StiggyZardust · 18/12/2022 19:48

Eliza and Edward. But I prefer Edmund.

Mindystryder · 18/12/2022 19:55

Definitely Eliza over Emily. I love both Edward and George. I think George just tops it for me but it's close!

Cantchoosename · 18/12/2022 19:58

George and Emily

TheEvening · 18/12/2022 20:02

Edward over George. I like other Ed names though - Edgar and Edmund. George has always sounded harsh to my ears.

Eliza over Emily as it's got a bit more to it. Longer versions, so Elizabeth or Emilia are really nice too.

You don't need to choose now, you can wait until he or she arrives and have a look at them. I never managed to choose before mine arrived! Then one of the list just felt right.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/12/2022 20:05

Edward and Elizabeth -

nice variety of short forms for both

Mumofgirls2017 · 18/12/2022 22:40

@nameconundrum Re Ottilie and your friends. The name Ottilie has not been unusual for a while. It's had a huge spike of late and is currently number 118 with 430 being born last year in England and Wales alone.

There are rare but normal names out there of course, it just takes a little digging to find the gems.

As to your names, I like Edward and Emily :)

This always baffles me as it's so easy to check how popular a name is. The ONS name stats are published online every year 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don't know why more people don't check it beforehand if they care about popularity.
