Hamish, Rory or Ivo

Im almost due and struggling to decide between the three names above. I think I prefer Hamish and Rory to Ivo but not sure which. Surname is one syllable, Scottish (but we don’t live in Scotland) and fairly common.

Rory, but as you’re Scots I’d go for Ruaridh.

DramaAlpaca · 08/12/2022 19:11

I love Rory and like Hamish. Not so keen on Ivo.

My DH is a Hamish with a one syllable Scottish surname, and it goes well. He travels to England often for work and people do struggle with pronouncing it though, often getting called Ham-ish instead of Hame-ish /Hay-mish. His surname is often mistaken for his first name too!

Rory and Ivo are also lovely.

Hamish or Ivo. Don't like Rory as much as the other two.

PritiPatelsMaker · 08/12/2022 19:36

Agree with waiting till he's here and then deciding but out of your list I like Hamish the best Wink

Orphlids · 08/12/2022 22:43

Hamish! Oh, that is just the most gorgeous name. So cute on a little boy, but so strong and masculine for a grown man. I like the unusual ‘sh’ ending. The name has a pleasingly gentle quality.

Rorys are ten a penny. I hear it so often, it has no impact any more. Not keen on Ivo, but I’m not sure why.

RambamThankyouMam · 09/12/2022 07:38

Hamish is a great name.

Rory sounds like the name of a lion in a children's book. Adventures of the Roary Lion.

Ivo sounds like a weird old man who hangs around disused railway stations in North Wales.

Purplemagnolias · 09/12/2022 07:41

I like Ivo.

Rory sounds terrible if you struggle with your Rs. And it sounds like a roar.

Rauha · 09/12/2022 07:43

Hamish

VenusClapTrap · 09/12/2022 08:14

Love Hamish. Can’t stand Rory.

emmathedilemma · 09/12/2022 08:42

Hamish then Rory then Ivo
I prefer Ruaridh to Rory but if you're not in Scotland it might cause confusion.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/12/2022 09:14

Hamish - v underused

I love Rory but overused right now

Ivo is nice rough

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 09/12/2022 12:26

Hamish!

Hooverphobe · 09/12/2022 12:31

hamish! I may be biased…

CPL593H · 09/12/2022 12:41

I love Ivo (either pronunciation) Makes me think of a knight in chain mail on a fantastic horse, about to set off on a quest.

They are all nice names though!

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 09/12/2022 12:45

Rory used to be my favourite boys name but I think it became quite popular which put me off a bit.
I vote for Hamish - lovely, classic.

PeaceJoySleep · 09/12/2022 12:45

Rory, then Hamish.
Not keen on Ivo at all

giggly · 09/12/2022 12:48

If I’d had a boy he would have been Hamish, as I didn’t it’s my cats name

SirChenjins · 09/12/2022 12:50

Hamish, hands down. Rory is a bit of a drippy name and awful if you can't pronounce your r's, Ivo looks like it's got a bit missing (and to show my ancient age I hear the Welsh Ivor the Engine).

Pashazade · 09/12/2022 12:52

I tend to go by the adults I know and I know one of each and they are all fab, so I'd go with what seems right once he's arrived!

octoberfarm · 09/12/2022 12:55

Another vote for Rory!

DearStranger · 09/12/2022 12:59

I dont think you can go wrong with any of them as they're all great names.

djt87 · 09/12/2022 13:03

I have a one year old rory :-)

LadyEloise1 · 09/12/2022 13:04

Rory

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 09/12/2022 13:05

Do a lot of people on this thread struggle with their Rs?
