I like the name and feel it's getting slightly less popular..

My knickers aren’t twisted at all - you’re saying that as an attempt to make me out as unreasonable when in fact all I’ve asked is why the names Connor and Tyler are inherently ‘thuggish.’ To which you have no real answer other than ‘they are thuggish to me.’

They appeared very much twisted, you were quite excitable.

You are being unreasonable. This is a name thread, where people express thoughts on names.

Names evoke all sorts of feelings in people, and carry different resonances for no particular reason. I have no idea why those names do that for me - anymore than I know why Lily and Louis seem somewhat wet to me - they just do.

FayCarew · 02/12/2022 13:30

@Luredbyapomegranate , maybe because Lily makes one think of lily-livered and Louis sounds like Loo-y

TheBirdintheCave · 02/12/2022 15:49

Conor is a nice name. I only know one, a sweet toddler who lives on the south coast of England with his Irish parents.

I wasn’t ‘excitable’ any more than you. And while names evoke feelings, the fact that you think Tyler is Connor is the name of a thug actually has nothing to do with the name itself, just a bizarre connection you’ve made. In the same vein, I wouldn’t go on a thread and say ‘oh no, Thomas is the name of a boy who wets his pants. Yes, I once knew a Thomas who did… so it’s a horrible name.’

Thanks for the replies, Irish roots but living in the uk.
Would spell it with one 'b' I think now, Conor. Really loving it Smile

I quite like Cobnor Grin

itssquidstella · 02/12/2022 17:52

@girlmom21 don't be ridiculous, Cobnor is incredibly chavvy. It ought to be Conbor, obviously.

Murasakispillowbook · 02/12/2022 18:03

I don't mind the name at all. Other than I associate it with a boy whose family said it in a very strong Salford accent. So with a very short -O not an -or sound.

Said "normally" (I'm allowed!) I like it. It's a good solid name. I reckon Conor / Connor wears nice jumpers and has clean nails and kind eyes.

(Without the b, though, for me 😂)

Kanaloa · 01/12/2022 20:32

Classist snobby nonsense with a nasty little anti-Irish twist. Kian/Cian, Connor, Liam, Aidan… funny that all these names repeatedly called ‘chavvy/naughty boy’ are just ‘not traditional English names.’

There are no ‘naughty boy chav names.’ Unless of course you’ve met every Connor in the world and examined their behaviour and found that each and every one is naughty. There are loads of naughty Williams and Georges, and loads of lovely Connors and Tylers. Almost as if the name of a child has nothing to do with anything.

I'm late to the thread, but well said @Kanaloa

I don't like the Connor spelling, but do like Conor. It's a popular name in Ireland.

Pettv · 02/12/2022 18:27

Sorry 🤣 with an 'n', no idea why it my autocorrect keeps going to a b!

Your first post was very excitable.

And for whatever reason you have got a bit over invested in this. Chill out.

Do you always put people down in this type of way ‘calm down, don’t get excitable, chill out’ because they’ve pointed out that you’re wrong? I don’t think it comes off very well.

MerryChristmasToYou · 02/12/2022 19:26

@Kanaloa , generally, yes.

Is this a name change fail or is this poster a general aggro type?

Guakamolly · 03/12/2022 05:00

Conor is a nice solid Irish name.

Amortentia · 03/12/2022 06:12

It’s a very common name in Glasgow. I know loads of Connors, it’s a good solid name.

connor21888 · 30/01/2023 15:26

From one Connor to another, 11 months isn't too late to change - I can't stand my name - yet to meet an interesting Connor and genuinely considering changing it at 21, hence why I'm here - I feel like teachers at school were extremely quick to group a Connor as a particular type of person.

ColadhSamh · 30/01/2023 15:39

Connor is a surname as in O'Connor (Ó Conchúir) Conor is the correct spelling for a first name. Agree @Kanaloa

CharitySchmarity · 30/01/2023 22:57

I prefer Conor with one N. I've known quite a few (with one spelling or another) and none that were particularly naughty. I've known naughtier children with very traditional names, including a Robert and a Jonathan - does that mean we have to call those names thuggy now?

BCBird · 30/01/2023 22:59

Like it. Automatically makes me think of an Irish name.

cathythegreat · 30/01/2023 22:59

Every child Connor I've known or worked with have been badly behaved- so it's a no from me

Pinkdafodils · 30/01/2023 23:04

I don't like it.

Ludoole · 30/01/2023 23:05

Ds1 is a Conor. I love the name!

Enko · 30/01/2023 23:13

It's the name I list on the "names I stand posts"

Not aided in the fact I've yet to meet one who was not rude. As I have children from the age of its risiing popularity in England stage I met quite a few. I'm not Brirish so it's not a typically British thing for me l. I just really don't like this name.

Liorae · 30/01/2023 23:19

I do like Conor, but for me it's been a bit sullied by association with Conor McGregor. I cannot stand the sight of him.
