Jenna? Or one of our previous list: Chloe, Jolie, Annabelle, Sophie

I think we've narrowed it down a bit.

Jenna
Chloe
Jolie - people asked how we pronounce it. We'd just say jo-lee, I see it more like a variant of Jolene or Jo. We know that "jolie" means "pretty" in French but that would be pronounced differently and difficult in English).
Annabelle
Sophie

Do you know more Chloes or Sophies?

Some people said Jolie reminded them of Angelina and we are quite worried as we actually don't like the association (she's lovely I suppose, but just in the media too much due to fights and drama with Mr. Pitt which puts me off). Is this too Angelina Jolie as some people said?

A new favourite of ours is Jenna. We think it's nice and energetic sounding in a way. I also like Jennifer but feel like it is a bit too dated.

We decided to not use Sarah or Sarah-Jane. We might still change our minds but Sarah-Jane received really negative comments and Sarah, lovely as it is, may be too much out of fashion at the moment (Chloe, Sophie still feel younger somehow).

I can't quite make my mind up about Emma.

People said last time that Eva is too popular and there are so many similar names around, I guess it's true.

I like Jenna, it's pretty and not too common.

I have two nieces who are siblings - Chloe and Sophie!

I'd say there are more Sophies at the minute as it's still a really popular name. Chloe is kind of dying out a bit but I still think it's a really pretty name.

Carly is nice too ☺

lifeinthehills · 26/11/2022 01:33

What about Gemma?

FlounderingFruitcake · 26/11/2022 02:01

Jolie, I can only think of Angelina, despite the fact that all of my house except for me speaks French. If that bothers you don’t use it.

Chloe, Sophie and Annabelle are all lovely.

Jenna I think is really dated and just not a very nice sounding name. I worked with a lovely Jenna (born mid 80s of course) and still hate it.

FolornLawn · 26/11/2022 03:46

If you like Jolie what about Joely?

Of your other choices I like Jenna best.

RoseValleyRambles · 26/11/2022 03:49

Jenna is lovely!

Zelda93 · 26/11/2022 04:14

I chose Jenna for my daughter whose 3 as it's not that common and I love it .. obviously!

mathanxiety · 26/11/2022 04:48

Jenna is very dated.

If you use Jolie I think you should pronounce it the French way.

Of the entire list I like Chloe and Annabelle best, though I would spell it Annabel.

Enko · 26/11/2022 09:49

Jenna is pretty.

RambamThankyouMam · 26/11/2022 09:50

These are all such dated names.

EggsHamChips · 26/11/2022 09:51

Really like Jenna. I know two grown up ones. Don’t hear it much which is nice.

Sophie is sooooooo common, Chloe is too, very popular about 5-10 years ago.

Frazzled2207 · 26/11/2022 09:52

As pp said I would consider Joely (as in Richardson)
jolie is a bit too Angelina and ideally would be pronounced the French way

like your other options but think Jenna is a bit dated.

Brokenunicorn · 26/11/2022 09:55

Joely

Gemma-Jane

Juno

Jaycee

ItsAWoozyItsAWazzy · 26/11/2022 11:24

I really like Jenna.

What about Carla?

terryschocolateorangee · 26/11/2022 11:48

Annabelle is the only one I really like. Definitely not Sarah Jane.

I prefer Ginnifer to Jennifer.

Skiphopbump · 26/11/2022 11:51

I like Jenna.
I would go for Joely over Jolie.

Tomorrowisalatterday · 26/11/2022 11:55

I think people would constantly think you were saying Julie for Jolie.

I like Chloe and Sophie.

I prefer Annabelle spelled Anabel and Sophie as Sophy but I think the French spellings are more common

shreddiesandmilk · 26/11/2022 12:00

Either Annabelle or Sophie. I find Jenna really dated and plain, sorry

NeverHadANickname · 26/11/2022 12:12

I love Jenna.

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 26/11/2022 12:32

Joely is pronounced the way you want (and would be my choice). Jolie is an entirely different name. It's like calling your kid Juliet but wanting the Juliette pronunciation.

I'm actually a bit sad you've discounted Sarah - it's such a classic and is due a renaissance imo! In due time, I'm sure.

Not overly keen on Jenna.

Strokethefurrywall · 26/11/2022 12:33

Jolie is my favorite

Sockwomble · 26/11/2022 12:49

Jenna is ok but I prefer Jennifer. Jennas are all aged about 40 whereas I know Jennifers of all ages.

Flooper · 26/11/2022 12:49

Jenna is a bit dated, but honestly, so what? It's a pretty and simple name. I'm so not into all the frilly and flouncy names that are currently popular.

I would go with Joely, like Joely Richardson, rather than Jolie if you're set on that one.

Sophie is objectively fine, but wow it's been so popular for so many decades. I feel like it needs a bit of a rest.

See I find Jennifer more dated. Don't know anybody under the age of 30 with it. Was a very 80's/90's name too and the sound of it is quite harsh IMO.

Pemba · 26/11/2022 15:13

Jenna is not a horrible name at all , but you get a mental picture... Jenna was born in the 1970s in the USA. She enjoys line dancing and lives in a trailer... Sorry, that's probably mean!

Jennifer is lovely though. Or Genevieve, is that a possibility?

miltonj · 26/11/2022 15:25

Sarah and Sarah-Jane are perfect names. Don't worry about out of fashion. Sarah is timeless and suits all generations.

I also really like Jolie. Cute and a bit different. Chloe is a great name too.
