Jenna? Or one of our previous list: Chloe, Jolie, Annabelle, Sophie

I think we've narrowed it down a bit.

Jenna
Chloe
Jolie - people asked how we pronounce it. We'd just say jo-lee, I see it more like a variant of Jolene or Jo. We know that "jolie" means "pretty" in French but that would be pronounced differently and difficult in English).
Annabelle
Sophie

Do you know more Chloes or Sophies?

Some people said Jolie reminded them of Angelina and we are quite worried as we actually don't like the association (she's lovely I suppose, but just in the media too much due to fights and drama with Mr. Pitt which puts me off). Is this too Angelina Jolie as some people said?

A new favourite of ours is Jenna. We think it's nice and energetic sounding in a way. I also like Jennifer but feel like it is a bit too dated.

We decided to not use Sarah or Sarah-Jane. We might still change our minds but Sarah-Jane received really negative comments and Sarah, lovely as it is, may be too much out of fashion at the moment (Chloe, Sophie still feel younger somehow).

I can't quite make my mind up about Emma.

People said last time that Eva is too popular and there are so many similar names around, I guess it's true.

I like Jenna

staybyyou · 26/11/2022 15:35

I like Jenna. I prefer Emma though.

Spanielsarepainless · 26/11/2022 15:42

Jennifer and Sarah are lovely. Chloë isn't. Emma and Sophie fine. I wouldn't go with Jolie because of the issues you mention. Annabel better than your spelling.

BackOnTheBandWagon · 26/11/2022 15:45

I think Jenna is lovely. Given the number of mentions of Zoe, Chloe and other similar ones on name boards atm I think some of the 80s names are making a comeback

Pemba · 26/11/2022 15:47

Chloe is a lovely name and classic, just as nice as Emma, Sophie, Jennifer, Sarah, Zoe.

Yika · 26/11/2022 15:47

I like Jenna, also Emma and Sarah which are very classic.

i like Jolie but like pp would spell it Joely.

schoolsoutforever · 26/11/2022 16:47

Honestly I would avoid Chloe and Sophie - they are so popular. I grew up with a very popular name for my age group and just felt a bit boring because of it. Jenna I think is quite pleasant. Yes, it was popular in the 80s/90s but I don’t see why that’s a bad thing. I teach a 16 year old Jenna and she really suits the name. I don’t like Jolie, and yes, I would think of Angelina. Joely, however, I really like - spunky, cool and pretty unusual.

Penguinsaregreat · 26/11/2022 16:54

I would go with Jenna. Ive like it since I was a fan of Dallas.
Jolie reminds me of Angelina and I would always pronounce it the French way.
Chloe & Sophie. I think I know equal numbers of both but the Chloe’s tend to be slightly older.

chikp · 26/11/2022 16:57

Chloe or Jenna

SingingSands · 26/11/2022 17:07

I'd be tempted to use Julie.

It's a great name and definitely due a comeback!

Billslills · 27/11/2022 09:26

Jenna of Chloe 😊

Billslills · 27/11/2022 09:26

Or*

somanybooks · 27/11/2022 09:34

Back in the day there was a famous porn star called Jenna, and I'm afraid there's a strong association in my mind so I really dislike the name Jenna.

Sarah must be due a comeback soon, so why not be part of the front of a name trend rather than lagging behind one? Not Sarah-Jane though, not a fan of hyphenated names and it does sound a bit clunky.

Otherwise I'd go for Chloe on your list. There are far more Sophie's where I am, and Chloe is a lovely name.

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 27/11/2022 13:07

Jenna is a lovely name. I know one in her twenties and don’t think of it as dated at all. Not a fan of Jennifer

Flooper · 27/11/2022 13:30

Ginnifer (as suggested by a pp) sounds to me like someone from NZ saying 'Jennifer'. And it looks a bit silly.

mamaduckbone · 27/11/2022 13:32

Jenna is lovely and I actually think Sarah is really pretty and due a revival

Lunificent · 27/11/2022 13:39

In most cases I don’t like very common names but I think Chloe is such a pretty name, it transcends that. I would use it.
As another user said, Julie would be a great comeback name. It sounds dull in context e.g. woman in her 50s but for a child I think it would be quite exotic.
I really don’t like Jenna. I don’t like the sound as I say it and it seems American.

LittleGreenDuck · 27/11/2022 13:44

Jenna is great, so long as your surname isn't Taylor.

I know a nine year old Jenna, it really suits her, not dated at all.

I feel like I know a similar number of Sophies and Chloes, but the Sophie tends to be a bit older; late teens / twenties. Chloes are more early teens / tweens.

Prefer Sarah to Sarah-Jane and the Annabel spelling over Annabelle.

Not a fan of Emma.

RedToothBrush · 27/11/2022 13:56

I know a woman named Jenna. Ive seen her abuse her son (yes I reported). She's from North America somewhere. She fits the trailer park stereotype up thread perfectly unfortunately.

Chloe is one of my most hated names. It's the sound of phelm in throat. Always hated the name and I think it's one of the names I have a really active dislike of. It's 'the snot name' in my head.

Other names on the the list are fine. Those two particularly grate with me though unfortunately.

mamaduckbone · 27/11/2022 14:28

I didn't make that association with Jenna at all OP. The only person that sprang to mind was Jenna Coleman the actress, and she's lovely.

MissBPotter · 27/11/2022 14:33

I really don’t like Jenna, it sounds like someone mispronounced Jemma/Gemma and does NOT need to be revived!

I think Sarah is lovely, not fashionable but classic and hits that elusive ‘known but unusual’ zone. I think Sarah-Jane is nice too. I also really like Annabel but personally would spell it like that to be less fussy. Go with what you love.

hernameis · 27/11/2022 14:44

I think Jenna is a lovely name! My ds and I are working our way through the Septimus Heap novels by Angela Sage where Jenna is one of the main characters! So the name has very positive connotations in my view!

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/11/2022 15:24

Chloe, Annabel and Sophie are all nice - Sophie is probably the least popular Right Now I think (but check on dark greener), although I have to say I prefer Emma to any of them.

Jenna is very 80s dated to me - like Ashley or Melissa. Jennifer is better in that at least it's a long established name so is fairly classic.

Jolie is bizarre. It makes me think more of the English world jolly than the French jolie, but either way, it's a lot of pressure. Pretty much anything is better than this.

Thruandthru1 · 27/11/2022 15:32

Love Jolie, it was on my girls list, but had a boy.

hazeleyes94 · 27/11/2022 17:12

Thanks for your input and ideas. Had no idea there was an adult movie star called Jenna. It doesn't bother me so much because she doesn't seem to be famous.

Gemma is very similar, but I just don't like it as much.
