So, if you were going to call your baby John, would you call him Johnny, Johnnie, Jonny if he has a nickname?

Juanito?

Tomorrowisalatterday · 22/11/2022 19:32

I don't think it needs a nickname but if I was going to, it would be Jack

Ummmmmbrella · 22/11/2022 19:33

Jon

Jonty

Needmorelego · 22/11/2022 19:33

My husband is John.
My mother in law sometimes calls him Jonathan.
He is not Jonathan. Birth certificate is John.
Weird in that half of the family 🤣

Jack or Ian

NooNakedJacuzziness · 22/11/2022 19:35

John Boy

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 22/11/2022 19:53

Johnny.

Jonny and Johnnie look too cutsie. Johnny Cash would have curled his lip at such babyish spellings.

illiterato · 22/11/2022 19:55

Jonty, although I think that's technically short for Jonathan rather than a nn for John.

EconomyClassRockstar · 22/11/2022 19:58

I'd say John doesn't have a nickname but Jonathan does. I really wanted to call one of my sons Jonathan but having dated about 10 of them over the years, my husband said no! 😁

DigbyLongcock · 22/11/2022 19:59

I'd probably go for Jonathan, and then call him Jon/Jonny/Johnnie/Jonty. I'm not sure that there are any NN for John, other than Jack - though John is a nice name in its own right, and deserves to make a comeback.

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 22/11/2022 20:01

Jean.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 22/11/2022 20:01

Jonjo

infohere · 22/11/2022 20:02

Ifan?

RabbitHoleOfHell · 22/11/2022 20:06

If you don’t like the name as it is, use something else. 🤷 Most children end up with the nickname used by their peer group not their parents so you might find that he doesn’t answer to the nn you choose.

RitaSueandBobtwo · 22/11/2022 20:11

John is John but sometimes Johnny in my book.

Ian is a Scottish version of John if you prefer that I like John its a strong, traditional, unpretentious name.

DramaAlpaca · 22/11/2022 20:28

Jack is a name in its own right these days, but it was originally and traditionally a diminutive of John.

geraniumsandsunshine · 22/11/2022 20:54

Ok, thank you. It was more for spelling as I think his siblings will not just call him John!

Gummibär · 22/11/2022 21:22

John really does not need a nickname Grin

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/11/2022 21:24

Johnny probably, if I wanted one.

John is a great name.

GlassDeli · 22/11/2022 21:24

John, or possibly Johnny for nickname. Jonty is horribly prim IMO.

Kanaloa · 22/11/2022 21:24

I think Johnny is cute for a baby/little boy, with John on the birth certificate. Even though it doesn’t ‘need’ a nickname, it’s still nice. I think John/Johnny is so underused, it’s a really nice name.

Longdarkcloud · 22/11/2022 21:44

I’ve read in books (non fiction) of Johns called Johno or Johnno

VariationsonaTheme · 22/11/2022 21:48

We use Jack.

midsomermurderess · 22/11/2022 22:14

Johnjo. I guess that usually short for John Joseph but whatever
