Isabelle, Isabel or Isobel.

Which spelling do you prefer? Thanks!

Isobel

follygirl · 20/11/2022 22:26

Definitely Isabelle but then I'm biased as it's my daughter's name.

EdgeOfACoin · 20/11/2022 22:34

I prefer Isabel - it's classic and pretty.

Isobel is nice if you have Scottish roots.

Personally, I find Isabelle unnecessarily fussy.

Smogtopia · 20/11/2022 22:50

I hate an irrational hatred of Isabel as it almost feels like a toddler has spelled it how they have sounded it. (I warned yoj irrational) I feel that Isabelle seems more complete and gives more of an angle for Belle as nickname

Gummibär · 20/11/2022 22:53

Isabel /Isobel is pronounced ISA-bel /ISO-bel

Isabelle is pronounced isa-BELLE

The former is English, the latter the French spelling and pronunciation (emphasis on last syllable)

MaryKristmas · 21/11/2022 07:08

Isobel is my favourite.

FHmama · 21/11/2022 10:00

Isabelle

resm · 21/11/2022 10:42

Isobel definitely.

Theoldwoman · 21/11/2022 13:14

Isobel

I've always preferred Isabel myself though they're all equally "valid" spellings. I believe Isabel comes from Spanish/Portuguese while Isobel is Scottish and Isabelle French.

Isobel and Isabelle would be pronounced differently from Isabel in some languages (I know for one, Brazilian Portuguese) but I don't think it's a big issue if you live in the UK.

fairycupcakes · 21/11/2022 17:41

Isabel but then I lived in Spain in my childhood so this is what I’m used to.

Isobel if you’re of Scottish roots, Isabelle if you’re of French roots I guess. Any spelling is valid, it’s whatever you prefer/ what you think goes best with your surname :) pretty name x

soulinablackberrypie · 21/11/2022 17:42

Isabel.

Isabelle is a bit too fancy for my taste, and Isobel always looks to me like it should be ice-o-bel, like isobar!

Geranium1984 · 21/11/2022 17:43

We have a newborn and called her Isabel. Felt like this was the most common spelling but could easily have chosen the other options. DH mothers side of the family are Scottish and we like the French spelling too.

pairofrollerskates · 21/11/2022 18:35

Lovely name. Pick the spelling that would be easiest for your daughter depending on where you live - it will drive her nuts otherwise when people keep spelling it "wrongly".

PritiPatelsMaker · 21/11/2022 20:46

In my street, we have an Isobel, Isabel, Izobel and Isabelle between 12-19. They all pronounce their full names the same, and all are known as Issy

Very similar here and we also have an Izzy in the mix, and yes, that's her full first name Wink

Gummibär · 21/11/2022 20:47

Add to that all the Isabellas born in the last 15 years Shock

KylieCharlene · 21/11/2022 20:51

Isabelle.
And love the Belle option.

LizzieBet14 · 21/11/2022 20:51

Isabelle

changer121 · 21/11/2022 20:58

Isobel

Derrymum123 · 21/11/2022 21:02

Isobel. Seems strong and to the point. My favourite.

Isabel fine.

Isabelle too frilly.

Outtasteamandluck · 21/11/2022 21:07

Spanielsarepainless · 21/11/2022 21:15

LosingTheWill2022 · 21/11/2022 21:19

ChaosWithEdMiliband · 21/11/2022 22:21
