Girl: Ozana, Miruna?

Probably bit unusual for UK, but what do you think of it?

Did you guess they are pronounced like this

Ozana - O-za-na

Miruna - Mee-ru-na (end is like Una)

Miruna, to my surprise is ranked 884 for uk in 2021! And there is no Ozana in uk

I’ve always like Ozma.
She is the Queen of Oz (yes, from Wizard of Oz books).

Roystonv · 11/11/2022 21:43

Both sound like a medical company trying to find a name for a coil, contraceptive or hormone.

AssumingDirectControl · 11/11/2022 21:44

I like Ozana but Miruna, written down, made me think of mirena coils. I’d also have mispronounced it.

Dotcheck · 11/11/2022 21:47

Both really really awful.
No one would pronounce it Meeruna, it looked like MIRE to me

And Ozana = Ozark? Orzo?

Nope to both

Meredusoleil · 11/11/2022 21:49

Romanian names?

I used to teach a Miruna. Not the best name. Ozana not heard of, but don't like much.

Better names Alexia, Mirela, Mia, Sofia.

JamSandle · 11/11/2022 21:50

Not a fan of either but prefer M.

LeavesOnTrees · 11/11/2022 21:52

Miruna made me think of the Mirena coil.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 11/11/2022 21:53

The first sound like Osama....not ideal

The second sounds like a type of birth control.

Just my opinion and first thoughts when I saw the names....

Lcb123 · 11/11/2022 21:55

Both sound like pharmaceuticals or contraceptives to me…

roisinrose · 11/11/2022 21:55

Love them both

CristinaNov182 · 11/11/2022 22:00

lol.. trying to find a name that is easy pronounceable for the English, but it’s not popular here and it doesn’t have any strange connotations etc… hard

Ozana is Romanian, though probably not in use anymore, never popular. Miruna can be Romanian, it is used, but it’s more of a Slavic origin, used in Poland for ex.

From the suggestions: Sophia is very popular where I am, heard Mia too. I don’t like Mirela, but it might be a “fresh” name here, I don’t know.

Ozana does flow nicely, don’t think it can be mispronounced. It’s also a big leap to Ozark, and while I kind of think it’s from a tv show (?), even if it’s popular it’s not going to be in a few years.

Also a lot of names can sound strange when first heard but they might grow in ppl, even the English ;)

What about Karina and Ariana?

What about Karina and Ariana?

Both much nicer imho 👍

Snugglemonkey · 11/11/2022 22:56

I like Ozana, Karina and Ariana. Don't be put off if the general opinion on here is negative. There is often a poor reaction to names from any culture other than English.

Spookypig · 12/11/2022 05:15

Love Ariana and Karina is quite refreshing.

Marina?

EdgeOfACoin · 12/11/2022 06:07

I really like Ozana! I'm less keen on Miruna.

OP, are you in London or another big city? If so, either name will be fine - Londoners are very used to names from other cultures.

theyoungishman · 12/11/2022 06:11

Miruna definitely sounds like the coil- Ozana it's not my favourite- what about just Zana without the 'O'? That sounds much nicer

AlloftheTime · 12/11/2022 06:15

Roystonv · 11/11/2022 21:43

Both sound like a medical company trying to find a name for a coil, contraceptive or hormone.

Came on to say this….

Wallywobbles · 12/11/2022 06:59

Isn't Ozana really Hosanna?

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 12/11/2022 07:14

I'd split them
Oz- Ana
Mir- una

Much prefer Ozana of the 2.

Roystonv · 12/11/2022 07:27

I did not mean to be culturally inappropriate, the op did not mention they were Slavic in origin but just asked what we thought of them. I still feel they do not give an 'image' someone would want for a child living in the UK/USA. Now, Ariana and Karina I like, I met a lovely Carina once as a slightly different option, she was Swedish.

Sophiste · 12/11/2022 07:37

Karina is really lovely.

Ozana makes me want to sing! Ozana in excelsis…

FearofQueefing · 12/11/2022 08:39

Both sound like a medical company trying to find a name for a coil, contraceptive or hormone.

That was my immediate thought too. Not for me, personally...

RandomMusings7 · 12/11/2022 08:54

I really dislike Ozana. It's too biblical (hossana!) and it sounds harsh.

Miruna I like, and it's a standard accepted name where I live. Maybe weird for the UK though. And it's unfortunate it sounds so much like Mirena.

Karina is pretty

Ariana is lovely, but I personally wouldn't use it because of "Aryan race" links

RandomMusings7 · 12/11/2022 08:55

How about:

Irina
Corina
Magda
Daria
Miriam
Marta
