Girl: Ozana, Miruna?

Probably bit unusual for UK, but what do you think of it?

Did you guess they are pronounced like this

Ozana - O-za-na

Miruna - Mee-ru-na (end is like Una)

Miruna, to my surprise is ranked 884 for uk in 2021! And there is no Ozana in uk

Karina is lovely

Ozana is also quite nice. But she might spend a lot of her life with people saying ‘what?’

Arianna is ok, but very Disney princess

Miruna sounds like a contraceptive device

I think Miruna and Ozana are nice names and work well if you have the heritage to back them up. Do not expect them to be Mumsnet favourites though, because frankly they are too different from the white British style of names.

I really like Karina and Ariana.

Miruna is definitely Romanian and not Polish. It’s an older woman’s name in Romania, I think. I work with one and she’s in her 50s. I don’t know any young Mirunas (although I don’t know many babies!). Never heard of Ozana in Romania (which doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist - I’ve just never come across one.)

Mirela is also Romanian, but I would expect a Mirela to be in her 40s. It’s quite a pretty name though. If you want an older Romanian lady vibe, how about Marinela or Marilena? Sinziana? Roxana or Ruxandra? Luminita? Iustina?

I know a late 20s Miruna and a baby Miruna. I think it works well for any age.

Ozana... I've only ever met one. In her 40s. A priest's daughter, go figure.

Mirela I agree is a very dated name

A very long time ago I worked with a Milena, she also got Mila.

Dreamingcats · 14/11/2022 07:44

I like Karina and Ozana. I haven't heard of Ozana before but I know several Oxanas.

I agree that Miruna is too close to Mirena.

I’ve gone off these names, if I ever was, definitely off Ozana, don’t like the religious connotation. I’ve also only met one Ozana in Romania, same age as me. In a sea of girls with common/ popular names like mine, Cristina, she was definitely memorable. She wasn’t from a religious background at all.

I’ve also never had a coil, so didn’t know about the coil connection for Miruna. But will this brand of coil still exist in 5-10 years, Idont know.

Just trying different names bc I know it’s going to be hard choosing one (we’ve already gone to this process once, have a DD)

the first one we choose is English, so I’d like a Romanian/ or at least Latin sounding one next. I’m Romanian.

@GlassDeli i used to like Otilia, but don’t think it will be pronounced properly, or people wouldn’t know how to spell it if they hear it. People here have problems getting things right even if you tell them how, B for Bravo, R for Romeo, and even if they say it back, I still ended up many many times with my name and last name misspelled.

I like Gabriela, also Sofia a lot. But Sofia in Romania is like Olivia here, if not top1 in the top 10 for sure. Plus, as it is with lots of names suggested here, there are family or friends connections and I can’t use them.

or some indeed are dated, like Mirela, but I‘ll have to keep in mind that almost no one will be aware of this in uk, and consider more of them.

It’s hard… I’ll keep looking, thank you all.
