Ada or Edie

Can't decide which one I prefer. I'm not fussed that Edie is traditionally a nickname and wouldn't use a full name (Edith/Eden) on birth certificate.

Thanks

I love Edie, I think it’s cool. Not a fan of Ada, it’s too old fashioned although it is becoming quite popular.

sillymefindingitout · 02/11/2022 12:00

Thanks, Yes i've read on here that Ada is very popular. I only know one other (child) Ada, whereas I know (distantly) 4 Edie's...
Popularity doesn't bother me too much 😊

I'd go for Ada. It's a lovely name. I don't really see the appeal of Edie myself.

RuthW · 02/11/2022 12:05

Ada as Edie is short for Edith.

FennelAndOnions · 02/11/2022 12:32

The Edie’s I know, are not Edith’s.

sopeas · 02/11/2022 13:13

Ada is the better of the two but they do seem a bit nothingy

DuchessOfSausage · 02/11/2022 13:54

I don't really like either of them. Ada seems more of a name but Edie sounds a bit nicer.

Dassams · 02/11/2022 14:13

Edie? Looks like a nickname for Edward or Ed Confused

Ada is more feminine but a little overused/dull

Theoldwoman · 02/11/2022 14:29

Ada

Mummyjlr120 · 02/11/2022 14:36

Love Edie and only know one little girl called it 💕

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/11/2022 14:59

Ada

or Ida - that's less common

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/11/2022 15:00

Ida - Eye-duh

@Dassams

It's pronounced Ee-dee, it's short for Edith usually. There are about a million little girls called Edith nn Edie or just Edie. Do you live under a rock?

That would be Eddie.

Edie is a different name!

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 02/11/2022 15:02

They're both suitable for 90-year-olds.

Polecat07 · 02/11/2022 15:08

I know someone who has called their girl Edie and doesn't seem to know it's pronounced Ee-dee at all. It pains but I couldn't say anything. I think she thinks it's a feminine spelling of Eddie. They pronounce it Eddie. Not sure how common this misunderstanding is, so be aware your daughter might encounter it if named that?
Edie is great though, I definitely prefer it to Ada.

Dassams · 02/11/2022 15:10

I honestly don't see why Edie should not be pronounced Ed-ie.

Edit, Edinburgh etc are all pronounced Ed and not Eed.

Perhaps you should spell it Eedie or Eadie?

Because its short for Edith! That's not ever spelt Eadith or Eedith!

TortieQueen · 02/11/2022 15:28

Neither.

AdaColeman · 02/11/2022 15:29

Ada is lovely!

I like Edith but not keen on Edie.

Haha! Which is why I love them. I also love Edna and Doris but they might be a bit out there..!

Less keen on Edna but i like Doris. And Dorothy.

Edna for other reason than Evil Edna scared me as a kid!

KvotheTheBloodless · 02/11/2022 15:49

Ada is a great, strong name for a girl - Ada Lovelace was the first computer programmer. Much better than cutesy 'Edie' for a girl who, hopefully, will grow up to be a strong, independent woman.

Dassams · 02/11/2022 16:43

Edna nickname Edie is nice
