What are your thoughts on the girls' name Juno?

It's really growing on me. Due in 5 months with a girl. Looking for a strong but also feminine name, nothing too 'frilly'.

Hi, it does remind me of the film but I think it might also depend on where you are based as I can imagine it for an American child. Certainly can see if growing on people
I understand what you mean about feminine but not frilly. Other recommendations maybe;

  • Nina
  • Elin
  • Mali
congratulations by the way 😊
TheBirdintheCave · 01/11/2022 08:50

I like it but it's too popular for me to actually use. Nothing wrong with it otherwise though :)

sopeas · 01/11/2022 09:21

I don’t know why I just think of sumo when I read juno 🤷🏼‍♀️ how about June? It’s very feminine but not frilly. I like Junia too but that may be a little frilly for your tastes. Congratulations on your pregnancy ☺️

Sago1 · 01/11/2022 09:28

It’s a beautiful name, it doesn’t make me think of the film, it makes me think of the D-Day landing beaches Juno,Omaha,Sword andGold.

DotDotDotDotDot · 01/11/2022 11:10

I love the name Juno for a girl. So many positives for me, easy to spell/pronounce, nice meaning, known but not overused. Wish I could use it but my partner has vetoed. I also like Cleo which I think has a similar vibe. Good luck.

It may only be a minor irritant, but you're also setting her up for 'hilarious' comments on a regular basis.

"What's your name?"
"Juno."
"Obviously not - otherwise I wouldn't have asked you, would I?!"

Do you know many baby Junos? Not necessarily a problem if it is very popular, but I don’t know many babies so not clued up with what is popular at the moment! I live in London if that’s relevant..

I live in London where it seems anything goes really…! Love your other suggestions, thank you!

Read the mythology behind Juno. It's really not nice. I know that all people from mythology have good and bad sides to them but Juno tries to kill her own baby and it's just really terrible. Sorry! But I wouldn't use it because it always makes me think of the horrible story.

I also dislike the movie. The name itself feels very hipster-circa-2010 to me. I thought it would become huge when I was a teenager but it never happened.

I'd much rather see June or Juna or even Jane or other names from mythology.

Rascalsandradishes · 01/11/2022 20:26

I know a little Juniper who goes by the NN Juno. I love it.

Notplayingball · 01/11/2022 20:27

Really nice name. Go for it. Congratulations 🥳

TheBirdintheCave · 01/11/2022 21:46

@AmyD54321 I don't know any but there were 101 born last year making it number 431 in the rankings.

It's not actually very popular in the grand scheme of things, just too popular for me as I have quite intense criteria when it comes to names 😂

Marymary987 · 01/11/2022 21:51

I love it, was top choice for my youngest but we had a boy.

This is the most unlikely thing I have read on a baby name thread.

I quite like it. Also like June and Jean which are both more unusual and due to come back

Fraaahnces · 02/11/2022 01:49

Love it!

Bingisannoying · 02/11/2022 02:17

I really like it - but I know three children with the name and I live in London. That wouldn’t put me off, but I think that’s where a PP’s comment about it being popular comes from.

Teeshirt · 02/11/2022 06:16

I quite like it, but the myth would definitely put me off, so I wouldn’t use it.

M0rT · 02/11/2022 06:23

I really like it, makes me think of Juno & the Paycock. Not a happy character but a strong woman.

Penguinsaregreat · 02/11/2022 06:25

I don’t know any Juno’s. Having said that it’s not a name I would have thought of.

merrymelodies · 02/11/2022 07:05

I associate Juno with donkeys. I don't know why.

freyamay74 · 02/11/2022 07:23

The mythology around Juno puts me off... she's a jealous and vindictive goddess!

So if origins and associations are important to you in a name then I wouldn't choose it.

It's not a hugely popular name, but the ones I do know are around 10-12 now (which would make sense as the film was about 15 years ago and probably caused a bit of a surge) So possibly it's one of those names that could feel a bit dated for a baby now.

How about Juni? I heard a mum calling this out to be toddler the other day and it's rather sweet. Could be short for Juniper - a name which has had a surge but more recently so seems fresher and less dated than Juno

PinkSyCo · 02/11/2022 07:38

It’s an ok name for a cat or a dog but not so much for a human Juno what I mean? I much prefer Jean or Jess(ica). Or how about Tyra or Brianne?

freyamay74 · 02/11/2022 08:20

Jean is classy and long overdue a revival. Also quite like Joni.

Maybe it depends on your accent. I can see people where I live really going for that joke because the way we say "d'you know" colloquially (kind of like "juh know") does sound a lot like "Juno".

I think it's an okay name, but not one I would choose myself. I am not familiar with the myth though, so it's best to probably read up on that before committing to the name.

VenusClapTrap · 02/11/2022 11:46

I like it. How about:

Dinah
Nadia
Anouk
Ruth
