So we found out we gonna have a boy and my husband really likes the name Axl, as its unusual and not common. I'm trying to warm up to it though :)
Obviously there are associations with GnR, but that's irrelevant. What are your thoughts?

Not my taste. The only Axel/Axl/Axle I've know is a dog...

strawberry2017 · 02/10/2022 16:51

First thing I think of is It's chavy

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/10/2022 19:34

Thuggish

Quite popular though

Pinktruffle · 02/10/2022 21:01

I really like it, but it has to have an 'e' in it!

Waspo · 02/10/2022 21:05

Love the name Axel. I'd definitely have the e in there though.

It was a name I considered for my DS but ultimately decided against as I was a big GnR fan back in the day but not big enough to name my kid after Axl Rose and everyone would definitely assume that I had!

Iamnewhere · 02/10/2022 21:08

I like Axel, only thing that put me off using it for our second son is that our first sons name is very traditional.
Not spelt Axl though.

underneaththeash · 02/10/2022 21:10

What would put me off it the Axl Rose link - (Guns and Roses) who chose the name as it’s an anagram of oral sex!

HahahaBoomBoom · 02/10/2022 23:37

Love Axel. On my list even though I know a few people/kids with the name!

SequinsandStilettos · 02/10/2022 23:51

Love it but The Middle was my favourite show for years and Axl (the Axeman was such a cool nn) was my favourite character.

JamSandle · 02/10/2022 23:52

I love it.

CaptainBarbosa · 02/10/2022 23:58

Makes me think of figure Skating because of the "axel" jump named after Norwegian figure skater Axel Paulsen.

But yeah, it's a fine name, but I'd spell it with the E.

Thatboymum · 03/10/2022 00:08

My son is called Axel , nobody in 5 years has ever made reference to guns & roses. We thought it was really unusual had never heard of it before and then when his older brother started nursery there was one in his class so there’s now two of them in one school tho the older one is spelt axle. For bias reasons I obviously love it but it’s deffo a marmite name

Thatboymum · 03/10/2022 00:18

Should add to my previous post when kids his age say his name they say it like Axhole which honestly sounds like they are saying Asshole 🤣

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 03/10/2022 00:25

Nope , really don’t like it .

The kid has to live with this awful name.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 04/10/2022 01:25

Hate it. Especially without an e. It's an extra level of unpleasant.

AuntTwacky · 04/10/2022 01:33

Awful
Axylotol
