Boy's name Axl, thoughts?

So we found out we gonna have a boy and my husband really likes the name Axl, as its unusual and not common. I'm trying to warm up to it though :)
Obviously there are associations with GnR, but that's irrelevant. What are your thoughts?

I think of Axel as one of those names that people pick because they think they're being really unusual / out there but actually it's not that uncommon and also not nice enough to be worth it. Axl is awful though whereas Axel is just a bit meh...

Middle name Rose? 😉

lets get it out there as you will be asked ALL the time

I know an Alex Rose, keep wanting to call him Axel.

Axel is a nice name, as others say Axl looks incomplete but I think it's OK.

Choconut · 02/10/2022 09:39

Axl is Axl Rose and Axel is Axel Scheffler in my head. I know which I'd rather my ds be named after.

toastofthetown · 02/10/2022 09:40

Axel is a name which is rising massively in popularity at the moment. Axl is linked to to Guns n Roses. You can’t decide it’s irrelevant for the rest of the world. Like if I called my child Harry Potter, I can’t just declare the book series irrelevant because I want it be.

Hoppinggreen · 02/10/2022 09:41

Middle name Otyl?
Its not terrible, I know a lovely German Shepherd called Axel, but at least spell it correctly

GreenLeavesRustling · 02/10/2022 09:43

Horrid, sorry.

emma1103 · 02/10/2022 09:45

It looks like you can't spell Axel and your son will spend his lifetime correcting people.

RedRec · 02/10/2022 09:48

Absolutely awful.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 02/10/2022 10:26

I love the name Axel!
But do spell it properly.

If I had an Axel I'd probably call him axolotl as a pet name.

Nowheretoogo · 02/10/2022 10:35

My dc is called Axl,I picked it as I knew not many people would use it.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 02/10/2022 10:38

I love it. It was my second choice

Purplecatshopaholic · 02/10/2022 10:40

I think Axel is a great, strong name.

PorridgewithQuark · 02/10/2022 10:46

I liked Axel for ds1 but am glad that I didn't use it in the end.

I liked the name Leif at the same time (but am almost as glad I didn't use that tbh). I think it's a viable alternative to Axel - just triple check the pronunciation (this is what put me off this name).

Not sure why I was in a Nordic name phase while pregnant with ds1!

MeridasMum · 02/10/2022 10:48

I almost called DS Axel. I sometimes regret that I didn't.
Love it

LondonQueen · 02/10/2022 11:09

The name is Axel, it looks strange if not.

sageandbasil · 02/10/2022 11:10

I love this name but spelt Axel

tickticksnooze · 02/10/2022 11:14

Sounds like an antiperspirant.

LunaLoveFood · 02/10/2022 11:20

It's really popular in our area, there are several across dc schools.

KirstenBlest · 02/10/2022 11:27

Axle grease

Lanicholla · 02/10/2022 12:42

Wow that is a lot of response! Thank you 😊 yes , I'm leaning towards an E , so it's spelled Axel. So we will be having debates for a E with DH

Yes, you can't make people think otherwise. Although future generation won't know what GnR are. I don't know any Axel or Axl at all..

timoteigirl · 02/10/2022 13:23

Axel is a real name, Axl is a stage name for a singer.

Choose Axel and then your daughter could be Elina!

kuvira · 02/10/2022 14:21

Axel is a Scandinavian name of Biblical origins.

Axl is a spelling the GnR singer made up. It has no history outside of him.

I like Axel but I wouldn't choose Axl.

ChagSameachDoreen · 02/10/2022 14:34

Dreadful.
