Thoughts on Trevor

I get the feeling this is one mumsnet might have a fit over but it's the only one DH and I both really like.

I wanted something not in the top 100 but also not 'unique' and it seems like a good middle ground? It's heard of but not popular.

Middle name would be Erik after my father. Honest thoughts?

I like it. It’s a lot nicer than some of the other naming monstrosities out there.

ofwarren · 01/10/2022 22:43

Dreadful name

Grin
MissyB1 · 01/10/2022 22:46

I’m married to one - he’s quite nice 😁

LovinglifeAF · 01/10/2022 22:47

Oh no, come on.

BattenburgDonkey · 01/10/2022 22:48

Great name for your dog or your car (Trevor the Toyota is alright), but not for a baby no.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 01/10/2022 22:50

It's a no from me. Conjures up images of someone who wears an anorak and is always surreptitiously rearranging his balls.

It's believe it's currently quite a popular name in America though.

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 01/10/2022 22:53

I quite like it. I like boring names like Steve and Michael, Gary and Barry. All names of my exes Grin Sorry, OP, a very back-handed compliment! Not sure Erik goes with it though, with the two similar sounds together.

It has dodgy associations for me but Trefor seems a lovely variant, and if you think of Trevor Noah, it seems less dated. So, go with what you like.

His generation won't have the same associations for that name anyway.

There used to be a well known ‘character’ in my home town called Eric Trevor.

My dad knew him and would often say ‘Oh Eric!’ Or ‘Oh Trevor!’ In place of Oh God or Oh Christ if anything happened.

I can’t hear either name now without thinking of the smelly, weird alcoholic mate of my dad’s

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 01/10/2022 22:57

Neville Longbottoms toad was my first thought.

ReeDeeHee · 01/10/2022 23:09

It's fine, better than a lot of names.
A bit old fashioned, but so what?

AllLopsided · 01/10/2022 23:19

Trevor is aged at least 55 and probably 80+, sorry!

Marymary987 · 01/10/2022 23:33

Absolutely awful name.

RoseMartha · 01/10/2022 23:47

No. I think it is a bit too soon for a comeback.

PeekAtYou · 01/10/2022 23:49

Erik is MUCH better than Trevor.

margegunderson · 01/10/2022 23:54

Clever Trevor 😀

DramaAlpaca · 01/10/2022 23:55

A big no to Trevor, but I really like Erik.

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 02/10/2022 00:01

It's a decent solid name. Makes a refreshing change from all of the Alfies, Ollies, Arlos. I can imagine a little Trevor Erik, it sounds sweet.

Blsp · 02/10/2022 00:04

Call him Erik. I know a 3 year old Eric, really cute name.

Corcory · 02/10/2022 00:33

My DH is a Trevor, he's lovely, ( his dad was Welsh thus the name). He's not keen, never has been though.

pompomdaisy · 02/10/2022 08:50

My brother is called Trevor. He's 70 now but a lovely bloke.

stairgates · 02/10/2022 08:52

Love it, definitely time for a come back!

AskforJanice · 02/10/2022 09:03

My DS 13 has a friend called Trevor. He can’t understand why I (and anyone else my age) finds it so amusing.

Hooray I’m not the only one married to a Trevor! Is yours a clever Trevor? Mine was brought up being told that every day by his mum 😂
