Nevaeh

I need honest opinions on the name Neveah, the infamous heaven spelt backwards.

I like unusual names but nothing that looks completely made up. I also don't usually ask for anyone opinions of our childrens names as I believe as long as we like it that's all that matters.

We are struggling for a name for our girl and came across Nevaeh, I do like it and the meaning with it. We are religious but not as strongly as others may be.

Is it honestly a nice name or not.. I've seen comments over the years about it being a bit of a chavvy name.. don't really know why but I'm curious to see what people think. I think it's a lovely name but am apprehensive. We have others on our list so it's not our number 1 choice but I'm curious if others opinion of it.

Thanks!

It's not even that uncommon now, DD has a Neveah in her school class, swimming lessons and dance class (3 different girls).

Lindy2 · 28/09/2022 12:36

Basically it's a naff made up name.

It's much too try hard trying to be special but it's a very clunky, difficult to pronounce name that doesn't flow with normal English phonics, because it's made up.

Cuppasoupmonster · 28/09/2022 12:37

All names are made up aren’t they?

This obsession with class is really awful, and wouldn’t be so acceptable on a thread about anything else.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 28/09/2022 12:40

IMO, it's vile. I cringe - and puke slightly - when I see this name. It actually reminds me of massive hairy moles. They're called nevus and nevae or something similar. Bleh... Confused

It would be too awkward to pronounce and spell from my point of view.
Is it the association to heaven you like or the sound of the name?
If it's the sound, would going down the Niamh/ Neve route work?
If it's the Heaven association there are other names that have that meaning (Celia, Celeste, Serafina, Lani, Talia, Zora, .....)

Seraphina is absolutely beautiful...and classy.

Threeboysandadog · 28/09/2022 12:40

If you want a religious aspect Ruth or Miriam are nice and and not overused at the moment.

DuchessOfSausage · 28/09/2022 12:40

Nivea isn't a crappy moisturiser.
Nevaeh is dreadful. I quite like the name Rats, though.

20viona · 28/09/2022 12:41

Horrific

I think it looks nice on paper and only learnt about the heaven thing via Mumsnet, until then I'd thought it was a variation of Neve. I wouldn't go there though, because I now know how some people react to it.
As for spelling it, I wouldn't worry. My daughter is called a well known classic name, but it has an alternative less well known spelling which I preferred. I chose the well known spelling to avoid her having to spell it out all the time. Unfortunately it still gets frequently spelt wrongly so I don't think you can win there.

Ah, baby names, the last bastion of acceptable classism on mumsnet 🙄

Whether you like it or not certain names have certain class connotations.

To avoid this I chose classic timeless names for my children that wouldn't immediately date or indicate class. I think it's important especially when meeting for the first time / applying for jobs etc.
My own name has some connotations which I'd prefer not to be lumbered with and if I could change it without offending my parents I would!

inappropriateraspberry · 28/09/2022 12:46

Awful. Naff idea, clunky looking and awkward pronunciation.

inappropriateraspberry · 28/09/2022 12:47

In fact, it's a Tragedeigh!

Fundays12 · 28/09/2022 12:51

I don't like it. Sorry the name Neve is ok but the spelling is terrible on that particular version. It's also very common were i live.

I think Miriam is beautiful and I know 3 Miriams and 2 Ruths in their 20s-30s but none older than that!

courgettigreensadwater · 28/09/2022 12:52

LunaCrystal · 28/09/2022 11:52

Its used a lot where I live- very chavvy

Yep

courgettigreensadwater · 28/09/2022 12:54

@PlantDoctor haha. I think the OP has spelt it both ways. Once in the title and once in the first post. I laugh because I know someone with a daughter with this name and EVERY time I have to write it I have to check and double check. It does not flow.

Shlomping1234 · 28/09/2022 12:54

Terrible name! As you are religious, there's countless biblical or Saint's name to choose from!

What is your profession?

GrimmTales · 28/09/2022 12:56

It’s really ugly, both in sound and looks. And surely dated by now.

Dragonskin · 28/09/2022 12:57

Awful name, I just feel sorry for the poor kids saddled with it

LemonMuffins · 28/09/2022 13:00

It's crap. Choose something better.

NannyR · 28/09/2022 13:00

The whole "heaven backwards" thing makes it quite tacky, but it's actually quite a nice sounding name, maybe if it had a different spelling

NalaNana · 28/09/2022 13:03

Awful, tacky name. How about Naamah? It's unusual and biblical (Old Testament)

passport123 · 28/09/2022 13:03

Good luck finding a better name! It screams 'look at me, I think I'm really clever but actually I don't have an original thought in my head'
