Nickname for Astrid

We have a four month old girl called Astrid. We took a while to choose her name but really love it now (although are aware it’s quite a ‘marmite’ choice!). However, it seems quite a grown up name for a baby and we’re struggling to come up with any good nicknames that stick. I usually think that nicknames shouldn’t be forced but I’d be interested to hear any suggestions. Thank you!

It’s a beautiful name, I love it. I don’t think a nickname is needed, just call her by her name!

DuchessOfSausage · 27/09/2022 09:23

She doesn't need a nickname. Astrid is lovely

ReeseWitherfork · 27/09/2022 09:25

Astrid is one of my favourite names 🥰 didn’t get my way with that one though! Don’t shorten it! Just call her cutesy things until she gets older, I call one of my DD “dinks” because she’s dinky.

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 27/09/2022 09:27

I probably wouldn’t nickname either, but I could imagine saying Trudy - sort of working off the “Trid” sound?

BackOnTheBandWagon · 27/09/2022 09:28

The traditional swedish nickname for Astrid is Sassa which I think is lovely

trulyconfuseddotcom · 27/09/2022 09:29

Asta or Attie?

NannyR · 27/09/2022 09:29

Gorgeous name!! I agree, I don't think it needs a nickname.

Dreamingcats · 27/09/2022 09:31

I also wouldn't force a diminutive. My DC's pet names are nothing like their actual name and only used by close family. Like Titch and that kind of thing.

YourLipsMyLips · 27/09/2022 09:34

Ooh Sassa is lovely!

Astrid is absolutely beautiful but one of the reasons I didn't use it is because I sort of knew I'd end up saying 'Ast' and that doesn't sound great shouted across the park 😆

dammit88 · 27/09/2022 09:39

Trixie?

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 27/09/2022 09:40

Doesn't need a diminutive does it? It's only 2 syllables and very pretty.

Reminds me of The Office "Astird" though 😊

riotlady · 27/09/2022 09:40

I don’t think it needs a nickname- I mostly call my child things like monkey and pickle anyway, it doesn’t need to be based on their name

uncertainalice · 27/09/2022 09:45

Star - I think Astrid originally comes from the Greek Astra, and was taken up by the Norse countries...but I could be wrong!

MissVantaBlack · 27/09/2022 09:46

Trinny/Trini?

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 27/09/2022 09:48

I love Sassa. Tris also comes to mind.

Nickname Buzz, after one of the astridnaut who walked on the moon?

TabithaTittlemouse · 27/09/2022 10:05

None of my dc nicknames are anything to do with their names.

Astrid is gorgeous

user1483387154 · 27/09/2022 10:05

my aunt uses Asi

toomychtiss · 27/09/2022 10:08

The Astrid I know is As so the first sound without the trid if that makes sense

Really?????

WashableVelvet · 27/09/2022 11:45

Gorgeous on its own. I love Sassa though.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 27/09/2022 11:51

Ooh I haven't heard that since there was an Astrid in my class when I was about 10.

we called her a mixture if Astrid/As (more of a hiss sound)

Star is cute, but if you do, be aware it'll be a name others use too and you may not get anyone calling her Astrid. But if you call her pumpkin/stinky bum, others will still call her Astrid and eventually school friends will probably call her a mix of Astrid As... or something completely random!!😂😂

if you say it softly (azzz trid) rather than AS TRID), I don't think it's 'too much' for a baby/toddler.

Mingot · 27/09/2022 11:54

My neighbour's DD is Ri ri from Astrid

fridacakehole · 27/09/2022 11:54

I know an Astrid who goes by Ari.

Also love Sassa.

Also love Astrid!

TugboatAnnie · 27/09/2022 12:01

Dd's friend was Astrid at primary school then Trids, Ids or Iddy
